Meet Julie Marie McDonough of The Credit Lady

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Marie McDonough.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Julie Marie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am the 2nd of six children. My parents struggled to make ends meet and put food on the table. I swore at a very young age that my journey was going to be different than my parents’. My brother and I would go to work with my father on construction sites. Although we would be asked to do stuff like, hand our father tools from the toolbox and do the cleanup, it was clear he was prepping us for something bigger. He taught us about being on time, work ethic, perseverance and motivation.

My brother and I had our own paper route when I was 10 and he was only 9. We kept the tips but gave our parents the paycheck to help with the bills. We may not have always had what we wanted, but we always had what we needed. Our childhood was joyous and filled with fond memories.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have learned a lot from my parents. I have been self employed my entire adult life. I have been a Mortgage Broker, Real Estate Broker and Credit Consultant for over 30 years. I am also a Keynote Speaker and the Author of “How to Make your Credit Score Soar.” A book I wrote to assist others in understanding Credit Scores and the are of Personal Finances. I broke the financial struggle woes my parents had and enjoyed helping people put their finances in order so they can reach their personal goals. Sometimes it leads them to obtain the American Dream of Home Ownership. I love what I do and the rewards are endless.

Everyone has obstacles, including me. I recall when one of my Credit Consulting clients told me that I needed to share the information with the masses. To limit this valuable information on personal finance to a one on one basis with just a small number of people was like not telling a large group of teen girls that Justin Bieber was in the restaurant across the street. My struggle was how get this information shared effectively? Do I set up a YouTube Video? Do I charge an entrance fee and speak to a room full of people? Do I write a book? Since I couldn’t decide, I did them all. I wrote the manuscript for “How to Make your Credit Score Soar,” learned the process the hard way, but persevered through until I was done. Got it on the shelves and did mass marketing. Then organizations wanted me to speak to their groups about Personal Finance and Credit Scores. Speaking engagements usually come with their own set of challenges but, nothing I couldn’t handle. Then, I rounded the offerings off with YouTube Video Lessons teaching everything from; how to get your first credit card, how to dispute errors on your credit, how to buy investment properties and how to increase your credit score.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Credit Lady – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I own several business and investments. I started AmeriSell, Inc. in 1988. I ventured out over the years to include AmeriSell Mortgage, AmeriSell Advantage Properties, AmeriSell Credit Consulting and AmeriSell Investment Trust all under one roof. I also use the construction skills my father taught me to flip properties. I was nicknamed “The Credit Lady” by some of the clients I have helped over the years. Their credit may have needed some TLC prior to becoming a homeowner and I always took the time to assist them where ever my expertise was needed to make sure they got the best possible rates and terms on things like mortgages, auto loans, credit cards and even personal loans. Me and my staff always go the extra mile to make sure all the needs of the clients are met. Even in my book, “How to Make your Credit Score Soar,” I use real life scenarios so that the people who read it realize that they are not alone. Many people have financial struggles and low credit scores. I am here to help educate consumers on how they can improve their financial situation allowing them to meet their goals and expectations. I am proud of how many people have said that their lives are better because of the information I provided in either my speaking engagements or one on one consulting. I am grateful for the opportunity to help others.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that you can do almost anything and everything in and around LA. Once I woke up at the beach in Santa Monica, drove to Snow Valley in Lake Arrowhead to ski, drove to Disneyland for a meeting and then saw a play at the Pantages Theater, all in one day. Lots of miles? Yes, but well worth it.

Most people would say that they like traffic the least in LA. I get it. But, with growth comes growing pains. I dislike that the City of LA continues to allow more large venues and high rises than we can physically handle within our infrastructure. The traffic is just a symptom.
