Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Cho.
Julie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Calvin started Happy Cow Photo Booths with a partner he had originally planned to start this up with, but due to last minute circumstances of his partner needing to enlist with the military again, he was back to square one to having this run this by himself. This is where I came in as I had previous exposure of running the operations of a different photo booth company before and he hired me to work as the operations manager here at Happy Cow Photo Booths. I had the special opportunity to do all the ground work from the floor up, which covered me making our website, designing it, setting up our pages, social media platforms, copy writing information, etc. He had me initially do market research for the other competitor photo booth companies and we made our own package list and services. We knew that photo booths are extremely popular in a lot of parties now and in modern trend, it’s usually a hit for those who want their events to have affordable entertainment while being hands off the whole time. We wanted to stand out with our setup and our home-made prop designs that became really popular with the guests over time. After almost a year of operations, we’re slowly gathering more traction with event venues and clients who want to use us for their events! It’s been a blessing to start this creation with Calvin and I’m proud to be a part of everyone’s’ special event!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If it was a perfect world, I’d nod my head enthusiastically and say “YES, everything has been perfect for us!” but of course, I think every company and start-up will have their own ends of slow starts and flaws to work with. Noticeably, getting the company started with our own website, email accounts, package flows, and social media platforms were a breeze. It was a lot of work involved, but definitely the smoother part of starting a company. I would say the hardest part of having the photo booth company under our wings were the exposure of going against the grain of other photo booth companies out there in OC and LA who have been in the industry longer and have the client base that they’ve earned along their years on the same road. There has also been some plateaus of knowing that other companies are eagerly bantering their services for prices WAY lower than the market is, so it definitely gets a little tough when you’re dealing with people who already has a set budget in mind. For that, we’ve managed to keep our balance of what we’ve originally planned and also have different ways to capture attention with some flexibility along the way. It’s still a learning process, but we’ve gotten further each month so I’m really excited for more opportunities.
Happy Cow Photo Booths – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Happy Cow Photo Booths is a photo booth rental company and we’re located in Irvine, CA. We offer our services to other cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, Inland Empire, etc.
We specialize in event photography entertainment for those who want us at their corporate events, weddings, social exposures, birthdays, and more! It’s been the trend to have a photo booth at every type of event these days and what we offer are open air booth and enclosed styles (not a lot of companies offer both) and of course we have a trendy looking photo booth in pearl white that goes along with it! Everything else that’s included is high-quality DSLR equipment, soft-box studio lighting, green screen, backdrops, and catchy props. Also, private digital galleries and social media uploading are other included features too!
I’m proud of our dedication as we would go to the extent of preparation before the event like visiting the venue to go over logistics and meeting the coordinators in person. It’s just the little details of ensuring that the event will go seamlessly and to gain the trust of making sure that the host we’re working with has complete transparency of what we do. I think this is what makes us stand out internally as other companies could just be running their photo booths as a side business – which could set up for a lot for issues and lack of customer priority. For us, it’s been our hope to make each connection last with every client so that their events are happily memorable and for them to book us again.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In my own view, I personally think that the success for Happy Cow Photo Booths would rely on having a great client base full of happy customers that would look at our business and smile back on OUR photo booth that was present for their special day. Another addition to that would be if our customers were not just “one-timers” but specifically requested to have us back again and again because they were THAT happy with our presence. This would mean so much to me as someone running the photo booth company that we’re definitely making an impression on them as not just a random photo booth they hired, but also having a relationship and garnering that rapport for many years! Eventually, if our company expands to other counties and we happen to open other offices along different areas, that would be amazing.
