Today we’d like to introduce you to Jujhar Singh.
Our founder Jujhar Singh came from an upbringing that lacked financial literacy and health education, which he strongly believes limits potential for those from lower income households, and therefore society as a whole. He has a passion and determination to give back to society by creating a sustainable platform for those who require the most assistance. Hence his creation of the Sikhi Alpha Foundation with a simple mission of ending inequality and inequity.
Sikhi Alpha works with local communities on its mission by empowering people to raise themselves up. This process begins by sharing wealth, time and knowledge more effectively. With the kindness and generosity of thousands of our supporters, we are funding exceptional individuals and organizations who are strongly committed to our goals.
In a world that has improved vastly in areas of health, education and technology, massive structural, cultural and economic inequalities still exist and in many cases are on the rise. There are many people who do not have the privilege of planning for the future as they have to think about surviving the next day. Sikhi Alpha looks to contribute by sharing our privileges to give us all the opportunity to participate in and develop humanity’s future.
Jujhar believes nobody on earth should suffer or die due to exclusive factors be they social, economic or political. He believes all prejudices are learned, and so can be unlearned for the advancement of humanity. Although Jujhar has had this vision for a number of years, he wanted to make sure such an organization both added impact value to society and was self-sustaining.
After a number of years of planning, Sikhi Alpha was fully launched in 2017, and in 2018 under our Education cause, our first campaign ‘Backpacks for School’. In 2019, we further expanded our focus campaigns, launching ‘Forwards Together’ under our Fairness cause, and ‘There With You’ under our Safety cause. Sikhi Alpha’s success is driven purely by our volunteers – our partners – and we are forever grateful.
Has it been a smooth road?
With any new initiative, a number of challenges arise.
Our first challenge was to make sure Sikhi Alpha was self-sustaining financially before any fundraising had occurred. This is because of Sikhi Alpha’s 100% model where all administrative and operational expenses are not covered by donors. This includes many types of costs from registration and tax filing, web and site administration and hosting, and marketing. We have the privilege of having our board and private donors accept this cost.
Our second challenge was raising awareness of a new organization, but we felt our best marketing strategy was to do our work to the highest standard and serve the individuals we have assumed responsibility to help. It is our privilege to have the opportunity to serve the under- and unprivileged, and underrepresented in our communities.
Our focus is our most important characteristic. We demand an unwavering drive on what we are trying to achieve against our ambitions to serve so that we use all our resources at virtually maximum capacity.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sikhi Alpha Foundation – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Sikhi Alpha Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with EIN 81-4170709.
We run dedicated campaigns under four themes:
– Fairness – support victims of social discrimination.
– Education – support low-income children by providing school and educational supplies.
– Safety – support victims of domestic violence or abuse.
– Humanitarian Action – support employment of aid-workers, emergency and basic supplies.
We currently have three focus campaigns:
– Forwards Together – under Fairness we help institutions to provide services such advocacy, education, 24-hour hotlines, civil rights defense, legal aid, and community engagement.
– Backpacks for School – under Education we support children from low income families predominantly living below the national poverty line. We aim to inspire a life-long passion for learning and life-changing education for thousands.
– There With You – under Safety we assist local shelters to provide services such as advocacy, rape and battering hotlines, trauma support, wellness training, community outreach, youth leadership development, and self-defense workshops.
Our differentiation lies in our 100% model, where 100% of Sikhi Alpha’s spending is directed to our causes. This allows us to scale our organization and our mission while using 100% of public donations towards our objectives. Everyone at Sikhi Alpha are dedicated volunteers who share its vision. We are also blessed with patient and supportive family members that allow volunteers to focus on their roles.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Our city gives many of us everything we need in life to achieve, succeed and be inspired.
Our wish is for the ‘many’ to turn into ‘all’.
