Meet Jourdan Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jourdan Clark.

Hi Jourdan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
This story began during the summer of 2018. I had just finished my junior year of college at Dillard University, I was getting ready to go into my senior year and there was one thing that I started manifesting in high school that I had yet to accomplish and that was my first business. I told myself that I was going to start a business before I graduated from college. Glaze became my baby, I was obsessed with constantly smelling good but I got tired of lotions smelling great and not keeping my skin hydrated. So I started to craft formulas in my college apartment, mixing scents, oils, and different types of shea butter until I got the perfect consistency. March 22, 2019 during my last curated fashion show, I released Glaze and sold out!

It didn’t just stop there, after graduation it got the attention of so many people, but then there was a blip. I went months after graduation with no orders and it was so discouraging. I felt like I had failed. I packed everything up. I was getting ready to call it quits until my mom saw me and said “Don’t let your dreams die in a box, literally or figuratively”, which for me meant that the sky had no cover, I could accomplish anything. So I started to formulate new recipes, bought new packaging, made new labels and pushed myself. I created my top selling scent which combats eczema, atopic dermatitis, dark marks and so much more! Entrepreneurship by no means is easy but creating a product that aids in helping people fall in love with their skin and their inner beauty brings me joy.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not! They do not warn you about the mountains you’ll have to climb as an entrepreneur. They don’t warn you about the late nights or the all-nighters you have to push through to get orders out. They don’t tell you about all of the work or money you have to put in before you see a profit! I went through a 90 day period of no orders, or at bare minimum two per month. I had times were my distributor’s upcharges resources because of the pandemic or products being scarce. It was honestly heartbreaking and I felt like a failure. Then I reminded myself, it took God seven days to make the world, it took years for entrepreneurs like Steve jobs to fully form apple or Jeff Bezos with Amazon. My drive just told me I had to make it, so that’s what I’m determined to do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Glaze is a beauty brand inspired by people who look like me, comprised of natural body and skincare products. Our body care line consists of natural body butters. Our skincare line is an all-natural hydrating body butter that promotes elasticity and retainment of moisture. Our body and skincare line is designed to simply enhance the beauty you already have. We put so much into our bodies, fragrances we don’t know about and so much more. I created this product for people who deal with the same everyday issues that I deal with, keeping moisturized skin, being beautiful naturally and loving your authentic self.

I am most proud of the fact that my product has helped people skin heal naturally and without harsh chemicals. It genuinely brings them joy and the testimonies they leave make me feel like what I’m doing is making a difference. So many cases of eczema, dark marks and stretch marks have diminished or gone away because of Glaze.

What sets me apart from others is the consistency of the product, the way it’s displayed and how it truly is a glaze for your skin, it truly is created to enhance your skin. It doesn’t take away from who you are if anything, it elevates who you are. Your skin will thank you!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love everything about LA. I love the fact that there’s so much rich history and culture in this city. It allows you live to dreams out vividly. We have the best of both worlds, beach and the mountains. The best food ever! You can literally get everything you think of. What I like least is what’s happening to our communities and small businesses, it disrupts the culture and memories left by our ancestors. We have to preserve that because if you don’t know your history how will you gain wisdom to navigate through the future.
