Meet Joseph Osorio of Authentic Stories in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Osorio.

Joseph, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a kid, I always remember loving different aspects of art, film, photography, and sports. I would run around as a kid just shooting random images of family, friends, and just any experience that intrigued me. My father and mother always put into sports, playing everything from soccer, basketball, and swimming. I guess this is where my passion of sports and film began to emerge. Fast forward a few years later I decided to go to college, finish my degree, and start working in a regular corporate 9 to 5 but I quickly realized this wasn’t going to be something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

All these years, I had always been fascinated with documentaries, movies, and films. The way they would share stories and inspiration millions across the world. How one small video could impact someone’s life forever. I decided to pick the camera back up and started shooting anything and everything. I got into travel films, sports films, and lifestyle stories of passionate people. But as I continued to shoot there were two things that continued to pull me in closer and for me personally, that was sports and documentary work. I got to the point where I knew that every piece I wanted to make should have some type of inspirational story and that’s where everything started to come together.

I got in touch with different brands, influencers, and sports players and just started sending out messages about the opportunity to capture their stories and this is where doors began to open up. I wanted to inspire others to truly believe in the gift they have been given. Everyone has a unique gift, all it takes is a little discovery and hard work. As doors kept opening, I received more and more opportunities to work with different brands such as Global Hooper, Vayner Sports, Blake Griffin, Genesis Motors America, Ball is Life and many others. I began to build relationship and stay connected to many of the brands and players. I think the most important part when working different personal and large brands I what can you bring to the table. What do you have that is of value and how can you provide that to the best of your abilities. For me, that has always been the mindset, “How can I do the best work possible for every person I meet.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, I think everyone’s life has its own bumps and hurdles. It’s never as easy as point A to point B. For me, there’s been a lot of challenges. For one, my business wasn’t really a business in the beginning. For me, it was more of a passion. I think if your passion leads you forward, you’ll continue wanting to grow as a person and as a creator. One of my early challenges I can remember was time. There was never enough hours in a day to get work done and then go to shoots and or edit. I would wake up at 5am, get to work at 7am, finish at 5pm, and get home at 6pm, and then begin to edit, learn more, or go out to a shoot until 1am. This cycle would repeat itself all over again. Those are the nights and mornings that become hard and you start to take a look deep inside. You ask yourself, “is this something I really want to do?” and if the answer is yes, well then that’s what I would call PASSION. When you become passionate about something so much you show up everyday.

The most important part about discovering your passion or trying things out is to just start. I think a lot of people get crippled by the fear of failure, or the what if’s. What if people don’t think I’m good. What if this doesn’t work out, what if, what if, what if. Our minds are powerful tools but they can either paralyze us or propel us to be better. Don’t worry about the struggle or the fear, just show up, do the work, and get better.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As an entrepreneur, I began to realize that there was a huge need for many businesses and brands. I would do a small commercial for them, a video, or some photography work but then the client or customer would be paralyzed on what to do with it. Therefore my wife, Julie Osorio, and I decided to create a new business that could hit all the targets a small business or new brand would need to launch. We decided to create Authentic Stories.

Authentic Stories is more than just a digital production company. We specialize on video production, photography, logo design, brand strategy, and media management. Creating a brand connection in today’s world takes a bit of creativity, data knowledge, and effective marketing. Our aim is to help bring brands to life in a creative way! We are here to share your story. Every client and every story has a purpose.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I grew up in different parts of the US and also in other countries. I quickly realized that being more of a natural introvert wasn’t to my best advantage. Traveling to different areas and not staying in one place for too long made having friends hard. I think the one thing that really helped me at a young age break out from being shy was the fact that I loved sports. Sports allowed me to be more sociable, connect with friends, and just build overall relationships. Whenever we would play sports, you wouldn’t need to say much, you just jump in play and then connect with the other guys along the way. Sports taught me so much that I now implement in my own business, everything from discipline, teamwork, leadership, accountability, hard work, and more. As a kid, I was also always curious. I think that’s what has helped me really discover my passion of film and photography. I never stopped trying new things and developing new skills. At a young age, I always loved to develop and connect with people and I think that has really transcended into our business with Authentic Stories. We are here to help brands build a deeper connection with their audience and their story.
