Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Teller.
Jordan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Our story begins when I was in college at George Washington in 2006. I wanted to start a DJ company to provide a reliable music solution to the many events on campus, so I purchased some equipment and set up this LLC. It then morphed into a photography and videography company as I finished my degree at GW, and went on to build my career in network broadcasting.
As I gained experience in every part of the industry, in the process winning 4 Emmy awards for my work, I am excited to be bringing that experience to my clients as a multi-faceted production house. While I have recently gone back to school to pursue my MBA degree at UCLA, I am running the company full-time as an idea through shoot, edit, and delivery solution for small businesses, non-profit, and private event clients.
Our experience is wide-ranging, and our flexibility is paramount. We are nimble and ready for any challenge presented to us. How can we help you create something that will have an impact?
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always challenges in anything worthwhile. I have often struggled to figure out the ins and outs of managing a business day to day while simultaneously pursuing new clients and doing all of the creative work needed to fulfill obligations to my current clients.
Moving the business from Washington, DC to Los Angeles, CA in 2014 was also a huge challenge. I had great relationships with clients and friends in Washington, and leaving those behind to create new ones in LA was tough – but ultimately very worth it.
Exploring new parts of the business and doing things for the first time was also a big challenge for us. When I shot my first wedding video, for example, I knew there was a lot to learn and a lot I didn’t know – but every time I do one, even now, I learn something new and figure out a better way to approach the next one. This is the most rewarding part of the business to me – besides making clients happy and creating good work. Figuring out how to better utilize my own talents and the talents of those around me to create better processes and streamline our efforts is a very fulfilling part of the job.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mookie Productions story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets us apart from other companies is our breadth of experience with many different projects and events, and our commitment utilizing our ability to create content that has a positive impact on those we serve and the causes they care about.
We specialize in video production for all needs: Weddings and personal events/milestones, small business promotion, and especially non-profit content for web and event use. We also offer photography and DJ services, as needed by our clients.
What we are most proud of as a company is our ability to work closely and efficiently with our clients, always taking their concerns and needs to heart while offering our advice and expertise to improve their final product. Being a small business ourselves, we are very conscious of the cost concerns other small business, non-profit, and personal clients have and always try and work with them to figure out a plan that works for both sides.
Our motto is, “Professional, Reliable, and Affordable” and we strive to live up to that every day.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played a huge role in my life and business. First off, I was lucky to be born into a family that has supported me in this and any other endeavor I have set out on. More than that, though, they have set a great example for me that a good career is important – but it means nothing without using your talents and position to help others. This has molded my life in my many ways and I am very lucky to have had them as a guiding light in that way.
In business, luck only comes after a lot of preparation and hard work. Every lead I have ever gotten has come from them having the confidence in me based on the hard work and good product I produced before them. I have always believed that if you work hard and treat clients honestly and fairly, I can put myself in a good position to attract the next project or next client.
