Meet Jordan Rothstein of King Tide in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Rothstein.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As the youngest of four brothers, I’ve always had an appetite for taking risks and expressing my creative side. This led me to entrepreneurship at a young age. While getting a degree in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I started a clothing line FreshLife OuterWear (FLOW) and went to the dorm to dorm selling t-shirts and hoodies with the message of getting outdoors and going with the flow of life. I learned how to sell to retailers and eventually taught myself how to build an e-commerce site to sell my products online. I fell in love with the digital space and developing products to help consumers experience a brand online in a unique and exciting way.

I wanted to be more involved in the community and help other entrepreneurs grow their business and realize their vision, so I started working with an agency right out of college which I helped from growing from the 1 to more than 20 employees, securing top talent and brands like Beats by Dre, Adidas, Nike among others. At 24, I went out to start my own firm, King Tide, which has a mission of working with entrepreneurs to help them launch and scale their business. Today we have offices in Los Angeles and Mexico City with more than 15 employees, and client partners spanning the Health Care, FinTech, Blockchain and Entertainment industries.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think it’s been a smooth road for anyone, and if it has, God bless them! The main struggle along my journey at King Tide was truly understanding our vision, mission, and how to build a great team to support that. When we first launched our business, we offered every digital service under the sun, including social media, online marketing, e-commerce, email marketing, web and mobile development. We managed a lot of different clients across many different industries and we outsourced a lot of our work.

We had to sit down as a team and find a more narrow focus and build a process that was defensible and scalable. At the fork in the road, we decided we were more passionate about building digital products that had a real-world impact. We cut all our marketing services and offboarded clients to a partner agency, and hired some of the best design and development talent we could find. The best advice I can give any entrepreneur is to find what you’re passionate about, kill the rest, and focus all of your energy on doing that one thing better than anyone.

Please tell us about King Tide.
King Tide is a digital product development company specializing in working with early-stage startups and new entrepreneurs to help them build their Minimal Viable Product (MVP) through a highly collaborative workshop model. If you’re an entrepreneur with a great idea but uncertain how to execute, King Tide will work closely with you, becoming part of your team, to help you create a product vision, roadmap, and understand the costs and needs of the business long-term. Our team has helped raise funding for companies, we’ve scaled technology business, and we’ve had several acquisitions, including most recently, the acquisition of our travel company, Travelzeeky.

We’re most proud of the fact that we can help entrepreneurs along their journey, and create innovative products with real-world impact. We’re currently working on an Apple Watch ad iOS app that will allow patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) track their treatment and progress with the goal of predicting and preventing relapses.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories from childhood are spending time with my family, playing little league baseball, and going to Dodgers Opening Day and Father’s Day with my family every year. Those are the memories I’ll cherish forever.
