Meet Jordan Leach of Crooked Jaw Productions in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Leach.

Jordan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started writing at the age of six with family members whom already worked in media. Over the years, I dabbled in music, choir and theater productions. Come high school, my transition into film was complete as I cultivated the first film program at my school, which has since flourished. After film school, I came out to LA with some university colleagues and began working in the studio system in various entry-level positions, all while honing my craft as a writer/director/editor with Crooked Jaw Productions. In 2017, the company produced its first feature-length film. This past year, I channeled my talents and published my first book – a time traveling thriller named “Echo,” which is available now. I am working with Crooked Jaw in production on my first feature film, currently titled “The Odyssey,” a frenetic comedy which I wrote and am directing. I hope to one day start my own film company and write/direct larger scale films with the major studio systems.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been an absolute struggle being a filmmaker with no money or contacts to my name; especially given the current climate of Hollywood where opportunities are growing ever scarce. Anything that myself and my colleagues have accomplished, we did in spite of the opposition. We created a feature film with next to no money. We don’t let excuses like finances, equipment, resources or contacts get in the way of creating art. This was also one of the reasons I self-published my own book. Despite all push back and closed doors, I took the liberty of putting in the work myself; and the feedback on the book has been tremendous. We’ve had elitists shut us down at every corner. We’ve had other filmmakers sabotage our projects for their own gain. We’ve even had companions hinder our growth out of selfish ambition. Yet what remains core to our group outside of the resourceful drive and relentless attitude is our loyalty to each other. That is what has kept us going no matter what.

Please tell us about Crooked Jaw Productions.
I am the Vice President of Crooked Jaw Productions and a self-published author. My personal work is highlighted on my own website (, yet the company projects are also to be found on the company website ( Both the president of Crooked Jaw and myself are writer-director-editors, and it is necessary to wear many hats on any given project. I have exceptional scheduling/organization skills, so I will usually fill in as the 1st assistant director on any projects my colleague directs. Otherwise, I’ll be writing and directing many projects and we tag team the edits. Each team member produces the projects, be they music videos, shorts, mini-series or features. It takes a lot of work, but we love doing it.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been an extroverted-introvert with a sarcastic charisma. I am curious and a truth seeker, finding art in its many facets as life therapy. I learn more about myself and the world at large through storytelling, and the audience in turn learns from me. I tried many avenues growing up and love all kinds of sports, but art will always be my true love. I would never call myself a combative person – more of a peacekeeper. Yet after six years in the military, I see myself as more steadfast and confident than ever before.
