Meet Jonnathan Benites-Bernardini of Word of Mouth Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonnathan Benites-Bernardini.

Jonnathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love of food which developed more as I got older. Knowing where a specific cuisine originated, who the chef is that made it and where it was grown, are the types of things that I became interested in. I dabble in cooking – only at the level of a home cook – but spend more of my time now behind the camera capturing what others have spent time perfecting. I enjoy showcasing through a lens what I find to be the best about food as well as writing about it and sharing this information with others who love food as much as I do.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are a lot of foodies on social media, so my challenge has been to create a name for myself; to create content that isn’t exactly like everyone else’s.

Please tell us about Word of Mouth Los Angeles.
My blog is all about the vast food scene in L.A. LA county is filled with pockets of various cuisines from different regions; we draw from so many cultures. I like to share my favorite spots in the city whether they’re non-assuming, hole-in-the-wall mom and pop shops or notable fine dining establishments. There’s something for everyone. What may set me apart is that I don’t chase food trends. Some are okay, but otherwise, I like what I like and I hope others do as well.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that we are an amalgam of different countries. I like to learn about cultures through their cuisine. What do I least like… it’s not cold enough! I rarely get to enjoy hearty soups because it’s normally 80 degrees year round. That doesn’t mean I don’t eat hot foods, but something about soup in the heat just doesn’t sit well with me, haha!
