Meet Jonathon Jacobs of Jonspassion in Rancho Cucamonga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathon Jacobs.

Jonathon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well I started film in high school junior year, I was failing most of my classes so badly I needed a 0 period and I chose TV-Video. I remember the first moment I fell in love with film was after editing a small trailer of the first fast and the furious movie, I remember showing it to my teacher and friends then realizing I loved creating video projects so I signed up for tv video the following year. Skip forward there years I was offered a job at a local mega church named abundant living to work in the media department which is where I learned a lot of the basics in which I’ve used for the past three years as a freelance cinematographer, I left my job because I believe that there are a lot of great people with great talents, goals, scripts, and movements. Sometimes the only thing that is keeping them from that yes is quality storytelling and that’s where Jonspassion was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
The roads on this journey has been a true blessing, I thank God everyday that I get to use this gift to help people and God has made it so that I’ve been able to not just pay the bills but to save and provide for my wife for the past three years. I stepped out in faith because I felt a strong urge to grow to push myself to make faith not something I can just talk about but something I live everyday. With this new perspective, I choose to believe that there is value in struggle if being great was easy, everyone would do it, I see that there is a price and ask myself is it worth it? If it is then I send my prayer up I lay my plan out and I don’t stop until that faith becomes reality. I’m not saying this road is easy but there is strength in following a decision both good and bad because we can learn from them.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jonspassion – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
As Jonspassion my heart is to be the solution to as many problems as possible for my clients. With over ten years of experience, I’ve done everything from Commercials and music videos to projects for small churches/non-profits looking to help raise money. I love what I do in a world where anyone can buy a camera, a drone and set up an Instagram as a self-proclaimed videographer. I believe anyone can use a camera stabilizer but only a mature artist can tell a story with it, that’s what my goal on this is to use quality and storytelling to invoke an emotion or action that benefits the goal of my client. I always ask my client what a “Big Win” looks like to them and once we’ve gotten the vision I do not rest until we meet or exceed it, that’s our job as cinemtographers we are today’s major storytellers.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about LA is this is where dreams are made reality for the creative, LA has so many awesome storytellers, actors, crews and locations I love that there is always an opportunity in LA. In the past three years, I’ve been able to shoot countless projects all with purpose, love and passion. I believe with so many eyes on their screens LA is the perfect place to be to share real stories, to build realm movements, and make someone’s dream come true through Cinematography.
