Meet JayyOptic in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to JayyOptic.

JayyOptic, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m from Indianapolis, Indiana. I started off shooting my friends on a iPhone 6. I just did it to help out in anyway I could not thinking that it would be something I’d fall in love with. Shortly after, I took a photography class senior year & barely passed w/ a D-. I kept going & pushing off of pure passion & ended up becoming the top shooter in the city. I thank my mother & father so much because once they seen I was serious they bought me my first profession camera. After that, I moved to LA in 2018 to see how much further could I go.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When you’re following your dreams, it’s always ups & downs. I remember waking up one morning & quitting my job. Believing in myself so much, thinking at the time I could live off the craft & everything will be smooth. Shortly after every night I’d be scraping up quarters & extra change to buy McDoubles for dinner. The first year in LA I reached a deep depression where I questioned myself & for the first time ever considered quitting. Never quit. That’s the difference between the people that made it & didn’t. They didn’t quit. But I needed that. I learned a lot about myself that year. I would say the most disappointing part of it for me is seeing the people you love not support & stick by your side like you thought they would. The great things I’ve experienced is going on the Apologies in Advance tour w/ Sylvan LaCue & Jonathan Benavente. Also, helped build & was apart of Humble District for many years. Currently working w/ a great talented artist by the name of Stevie Fooley & his team “Common Wealth”. Got a lot of great things coming up. I thank everyone that has been apart of the journey.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a director/photographer. I specialize in portraiture & music videos. I’m most proud that I’m able to add value to other’s lives by contributing my vision. It’s an honor to be able to give people content that they will be able to cherish & reflex on for the rest of their lives. That’s what it’s all about. What sets me apart is my talent & vision. I have a very unique eye for things & a great idealist. I feel like I can become one of the greats at what I do.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe God will place what you need in & out of your life. It’s not much that we’re in control of in life. I thank God everyday for the opportunities thrown my way & the people I build relationships with. I just try to work hard & stay as creative as possible.
