Meet Jon Del Real

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Del Real.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started taking street photos on my cellphone eventually saving up for a beginner DSLR from 2011 because it was all I could afford. I eventually met people who have been very supportive of my work and I haven’t stopped doing stuff since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Money is always an issue. No job is giving out job interviews so I’m unemployed. Most of the money that I get from shooting people and shows go towards my bills so I can’t invest in myself. Right now I’m still using that old 2011 camera. And I’m editing all of my photos on my iPhone. I feel creatively stunted by my lack of funds, but I make do with what I have. I still take some pretty good photos, to be honest.

Please tell us about your business.
I take photos of people. Lifestyle, portraits, live events. I primarily do flash photography to compensate for my dated gear, but it looks good and has STYLE.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Traveling three hours for $20 isn’t worth it. My time has value. My photos have value. If it is good, people will pay for it.

  • $100 – solo photos (includes editing)
  • $130 – concerts (must be flash-friendly; includes editing)
