Meet Joi Fowler of Vanity Room in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joi Fowler.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A Charismatic Paradox. That’s the best description when talking about the life and times of Joi Fowler. A true Southern Belle from the heart of Atlanta, Georgia I have always been the life of the party. From a thriving city with growing popularity, partying is what we did growing up. I remember getting into the most popular musical artists and athletes parties at a fairly young age. From floor to ceiling ice sculptures, to live tigers, and mansion parties in Bal Harbor I have had the honor to experience the creme de la creme of functions. The paradox of it all is from the outside looking in, it looks as if I do nothing more than just that…PARTY. But very few people know that I am a decorated Army veteran, I hold a degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, and Marketing, and I work for a Fortune 500 IT company as a VoIP Engineer. All things perceived by others is the how I became the “Party Girl” people have known to grow and love. But not many know Joi. I had a rough surrounding and me and family used to move from place to place, I’ve had a life full of horrific traumatic experiences that not many survive through. Everything I went through has built this non-stop machine in me that will not take no for an answer and who will continue to ELEVATE in every aspect of my life. After years, and years, and years of partying and having fun I decided to get a “real” job at the age of 26. My very first professional job was the highest salary anyone in my family had ever seen. No one believed that I could just jump into the work force starting off making $90,000. But it didn’t seem far-fetched at all to me. All of my life I have been a woman of manifestations. I dream and visualize my goals and future to make those aspirations tangible. I have mastered the art of studying myself and with that, I have mastered my power. I used the money I made to create Vanity Room and become an entrepreneur. I owned the business for years before ever knowing what exactly I was going to do with it. At first Vanity, Room was an online mall that specialized in custom made items. But on one random day, a special friend of mine completely made me revamp Vanity Room into an exclusive curated luxury experience company. Through my life of partying and connecting with so many people I have developed a nickname of “The Plug”. People know me for my extravagant lifestyle and fun parties. So the idea came from capitalizing on what people already know me for; the party and the people. So with combining those two essential pieces…Vanity Room was born.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been anything BUT smooth. My mother and grandmother were ill for awhile which caused me to put Vanity Room on the back burner. But after a few years, I was ready to get the ball rolling on my vision. The first initial blow was when my first website developer who never built the website but took my deposit of over $5,000. I have also dealt with a logo designer who created a logo from what looked to be Vista Print or some DIY application and I wasn’t satisfied. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, the designer refused to change it and refused to refund my deposit. Another incident occurred when my financial advisor took $10,000 of money left to me from my deceased grandmother. People can be cruel, entitled, and fraudulent but I have always refused to allow the actions of others and the way they treat me affect my movement and how I treat others. I sow way more than just things associated with business. I sow love, kindness, support, knowledge, understanding, loyalty, honesty, forgiveness, and trust. So I work on displaying those ethics to others to reap those values being reciprocated to me.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Family & Friends: So many of my family and friends have supported me in so many ways. Through long conversations, advice, referrals, financial assistance during the hard times, and so many more awesome ways than I can’t even begin to mention. I would not be here if it weren’t for their unconditional love. I do this for them.

Kellon Deryck: One of my best friends (who happens to also be my hairstylist) who gave me the revised vision of Vanity Room and trusted me with coordinating the grand opening of his salon as my official first Vanity Room event. Our many talks about our dreams and goals have manifested before our eyes and we are just getting started.

Fans: I believe that “haters” is such a negative word for the type of people I’m referring to. I would like to turn that negative into a positive and refer to these people as fans. I want to thank all the fans who have spoken poorly about me, never believed in me, who were envious of me, and those who have ultimately mistreated me. The fans have helped motivate me to dream even bigger and to obtain even more success.
