Today we’d like to introduce you to John Dean.
John, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started the brand Renowned when I was a senior in high school around 2011. I used to work around my high school telling people that I was going to be famous! It was a joke at first but the idea really manifested into a brand. We have gone through many ups and downs as a brand. We have collaborated with Chris Brown, We have shown our collection all over the world, made custom pieces for celebrities like Bryson Tiller, Jackson Wang and Tyga. All it took was patience and a clear vision on what I wanted to do.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Plenty of struggles! Renowned represents the duality of the American Dream. So we are all going to experience obstacles on the way to our version of the American Dream.
– Some obstacles we have faced are working with people who didn’t have our best interests.
– Being too kind to those who have wronged us.
– Simple mistakes in fashion due to us not knowing any better. But we consider these learning experiences.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Renowned LA – what should we know?
We are known for T-shirt’s, Hoodies and other silhouettes within Streetwear. We are most proud of the stories we are able to tell through fashion. We want everyone to achieve their dreams. You can manifest anything.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
One of my biggest helps to this day has been my friend Duje Stojak! He has helped me develop the brand from 2013! His work will be appreciated by me forever! Also, my friends and family who take the time out to offer feedback and opinions on my crazy ideas.
