Meet Johanna Calderon-Dakin of Just Right Entertainment PR in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Calderon-Dakin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I always knew I wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry and I love writing so PR seemed the perfect fit. Once I finished college, I came back to Los Angeles and started working with several productions and TV companies. I slowly found my way and got some good experience under my belt and decided I was ready to start on my own. I was lucky enough to work with some great people and learn from them.

Looking back I know it was because I was lucky enough to work with all these amazing people, especially one person in particular that I still learn from that has gotten me to where I am today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s never a smooth road and it still has it’s bumps but that is part of life. When you have clients it’s always tricky because you have to make sure they are happy and at the same time make sure you are honest and realistic about their expectations.

Just Right Entertainment PR – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I help companies and filmmakers raise their profile among their peers and consumers. I know a lot of firms tend to have the same strategy for all their clients and I believe that every client is different and has their unique story to tell.

I spend time working with them to get to that unique angle and make sure that we are telling it in the most compelling way. I spend a lot of time talking and strategizing with my clients because I believe that that is the only way to truly understand what they want to and what story they want to tell.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think each person has a different answer but for me success is not necessarily measured by how much money you have in the bank but rather the ability to feel proud about the work you do, to be able to surround yourself with people who you respect and enjoy working with, and of course having enough time to spend with your family and friends.
