Meet Joey Lopez of Joey Lopez Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Lopez.

Joey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I originally started doing quick sketches as a child. Whatever that was right in front of me I would draw. Sometimes I would even sketch up a self-portrait from a picture that was taken of me. It was difficult for me to pay attention in classes because I was so preoccupied with a piece that I was working on.

As I grew older I started painting a lot more as a young adult. I realized that I liked working with colors and paint a lot more… So now, most of my work is abstract but I do tend to add in some portraiture From time to time. I really enjoy working with colors and it is very intriguing for me to see what comes out of a painting as I go along.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’d say that it has a been a pretty rocky road as an artist. I took several years off from creating any artwork and now I’m just finally getting back to it! For quite some time I would find my self-second guessing my work and never actually completing it because I was never satisfied. Also, at that time I was not selling any pieces so it became very difficult and expensive to be an artist!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Joey Lopez Art – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is my artwork and my creations. I currently am the sole proprietor of my company. Soon I plan to print my paintings and drawings onto tee shirts. I know that it can be quiet expensive for some to just buy a piece of art. So I’ve decided that I would like for everyone to have some of my art and what better than a tee shirt print?! They’re affordable and what better way to produce more work.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that my city has the convenience of traveling anywhere for a short period of time in any specific direction and I’d be in nature, the mountains, the beach, the city and the dessert. It’s perfect! What more could you ask for? Of course, there always going to be traffic in LA and that would be something that I like least about Los Angeles. I’m pretty sure I can speak for a lot of folks out there!
