Meet Joel Daley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Daley.

Hi Joel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My creative journey started when I was a child. My parents made sure to keep me out of trouble by keeping me spiritually grounded and enrolling me in community and school activities. The main activity that kept me busy was the church step team, as well as middle school and high school step team. Being on the step team exposed me to new relationships while enhancing my personality. I chose to surround myself with the right people, the right place and focused on the right things. While in college, I joined a dance team called The Famu Strikers (at FAMU), even though I was enrolled at TCC. After being on the dance team for a year and a half, my team and I got the opportunity to be on America’s Best Dance Crew season 3 as “The Strikers All-Stars”. Being on ABDC introduced me to the production world. I was intrigued by what I saw and wanted to learn more about the industry. I then decided to pursue my career in entertainment. I began to apply for background work so that I could learn more about production.

After being in LA for a few years, I surrounded myself with individuals who were positive, of visionary relationships that brought me closer to my purpose. With these relationships, I got the opportunity to assist choreograph for Neyo, Justin Bieber and Mila J, as well as perform on stage with Seven Streeter and Kiesha Cole. The more I learned about the industry, the deeper I wanted to get into it. The passion, the drive, the burning desire was ignited and keeps burning. I then decided to put away my dancing shoes and tapped into directing. In the beginning of my directing career, I was looked over because I had no work to show, which pushed me into creating my own work verses waiting for work. After creating two short films of my own, many people became interested in working with me, which helped me to build my portfolio.

After 12 years of being in California, I now own one of the best Creative Consultant & Marketing Agency based in DTLA. My clientele encompasses individuals who are rising and seasoned stars: Ethika Music signed artist Gshytt, PCS Clothing, Qxpress and more. I am committed to the arts and passion to succeed. I am confident that as I remain steadfast and true, my dream will become a bigger reality.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not as smooth as I expected. I was hoping to consistently books jobs in LA after being on ABDC, but life gave me the total opposite. I struggled for years asking my parents for money. I was also homeless for a few weeks sleeping at friends homes as well as in my car until I finally saved up enough money to get my apartment.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full-time director as well as an Entrepreneur. My specialty is listening and retaining information, which helps me with my creativity. I am known for my storytelling and hard work. I am most proud of my relationships built. I am who I am because of the people I decide to surround myself with. The only thing that sets me apart from others is my purpose. I believe my purpose is to help others with there’s through film and development.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Well, I don’t believe in luck. Everything that happens to us in life is a lesson. Information given from life to prepare us for the next level, and if we are still alive to learn that lesson, then we are blessed. So to answer your question, “Blessed” played a role in my life as a mentor, teaching me everything I need to know through the good and bad.
