Meet Joel Bringolf of Dot Dash Productions in Sacramento

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Bringolf.

Dot Dash officially started Summer of 2016, but it’s roots go back. Joel and Drew, the creators of Dot Dash Productions, met sophomore year of high school. Since the beginning, the two shared a passion for creating. Creating anything. Through the years, this passion has lead to a slew of off-the-wall projects and a few great ones. Dot Dash is one of the greats. For the last three years, Joel and Drew have specialized in wedding photography and filmmaking. Dot Dash wedding films are in high demand in Northern California and beyond. By offering all-inclusive wedding packages, prompt communication, and a genuine desire to capture life’s best moments, Dot Dash has grown a large local following. In 2019, Dot Dash Productions produced a feature documentary, After Juvie, and partnered with Ethel England of Filmora Films on several other short films. With the help of the brilliant Ethel England, Dot Dash is on track for the best year yet. We have several original films in the works. These include an all-new Comedy Mini-Series titled MELVIN, and a Documentary with Live For Another ( and the Gamers Gift Charity.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
What a wild year 2020 has been. We started off by launching a crowdfunding campaign for the Melvin Mini-Series in January. After a long 30 days of campaigning, we raised $7200 and met our goal! We figured once we raised the funds, it’d be smooth sailing through production in March. Boy were we wrong about that… The pandemic hit California halfway through production on Melvin, and we had to postpone finishing the series. Thankfully all of our cast and crew have remained healthy! We’re gearing up to continue production at the end of June.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We pride ourselves on our efficiency! In the wedding industry, there’s no second takes. There’s no excuse for missing a moment, and the stakes are always high. We’ve taken that mentality and applied it to our creative projects to great success. Our production days are always on schedule or ahead. We know what we’re capable of, and we know what’s out of reach for now. Keeping this mentality helps us create meaningful pieces while still having a ton of fun!

What were you like growing up?
I like to tinker. Growing up, I’d always be taking things apart to find out how they work. By the end of the school year, my teacher’s desk would be filled with confiscated contraptions I had built while pretending to listen. I’ve always wanted to be a director. Any time I would get a movie, I’d make sure it was the two disk special edition! I would spend more time watching the special features and behind the scenes extras than the actual film. Mom always told me I am smart and I am a natural leader. Hope she’s right.
