Meet Joe O of Top Dolla Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe O.

Joe, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Music has been a part of me throughout my life. I started my journey doing acappella freestyles back in school in Lagos, Nigeria. Many of my schoolmates enjoyed my freestyle session, but it got me in trouble in school because it was deemed as a “distraction” to others. I knew it was a sign from God that my voice and raw skills can take me to higher places. When I finally came back to Somerset, New Jersey. I took my music more serious. I even left New Jersey to Atlanta for a better opportunity to be heard by acts like Davido, TI, etc.

After a while, I was a little discouraged but, I kept it pushing. I believe my first big break was when I opened up for an Afrobeat artist, Tekno. Which help boost my popularity around the area.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everything doesn’t always go as plan. There were moments where I wanted to give up because sometimes, my hard work doesn’t match the outcome. I believe that what everyone feels at one point. It plays effect on one’s mind and confidence. But I’m grateful that the reception to my music has been good because as long as someone is tuning in, I believe I’m doing something great.

Please tell us about Top Dolla Group.
Today, myself and a couple of my close friends run a business called Top Dolla Group LLC, which is our own independent record label. Under Top Dolla we have a street team group called G$D Global. We specialize mostly music but, we started to get in tune with the fashion industry and started creating our own merchandise. Our official website will be launched on the same I drop my music video to my song I drop back in May called “RiRi”. Currently, we have received inquiries from other music artists if we can sign them to our management. We decided to solely focus on me and get my music in a better position to where we can recruit multiple and have higher credentials.

I have performed for acts like Davido, Rema, Teni, and many more. I’m still dropping music consistently, and I just did a performance on September 6 for Suya Fest, where many known DJs and producers were in attendance.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I attended an event during the BET Awards weekend back in 2017. I perform with one of my close friends. I meant social media influencers and they invited me to a private party. I used that opportunity to tried networking. That’s one what I liked about being in LA, the opportunity to run into someone famous or known is very simple. LA was a great experience as a businessman and a person.
