Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Liebowitz.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Joe. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Queens NY. My family was a blue collar hardworking family. Right before I was born my parents became religious, so growing up they sent me to a private Jewish school. I didn’t fit in, I had questions the teachers didn’t have answers to, I was wild to say the least and I was not a fan of school (and they weren’t a fan of me lol)
At the age of 13, I was expelled from school, during that time I worked for my dad, he had a distribution route of bakery products that he would sell to supermarkets. He would pay me $4 an hour to help him out on his route. I was actually great at it, and I loved the idea of my 4$ an hour job.
Without going into a lot of details, that was my last time in school, I was hooked on doing something that I was actually good at. My parents begged me to go back to school, they ended up threatening me that either I go back to school or leave their house. I left at 14 and entered the world of employment.
I never went without a job from the age of 14. I was determined to make it.
I made many mistakes along the way, I had no guidance and no idea what the world was about, all I had was blind determination.
For the next couple years I worked all types of construction jobs, from painting to framing, to electrical work. I loved it, I had a place to get my energy out, and I would put my whole heart into every job, I would paint the best wall anyone has ever painted, I had something to prove to myself. I excelled in my work, my employers were happy with me, and I got so much satisfaction out of making a customer happy.
At 18 years old I started my own Handyman business, I printed flyers, made business cards and spread the word. I grew this business within a year to have five employees and always consistent work. But I wanted more.
At 20 years old I had taken a vacation to Los Angeles to visit family and friends, I loved it here. A family friend who had a successful construction company here in Los Angeles made me a tempting offer to come work for him. For me this was the opportunity I was looking for, to have a mentor, someone to guide me to where I wanted to go.
Over the next couple of years, I worked my way up in the company and learned how to operate on a large scale and facilitated tremendous growth within the company and myself.
By 2017 We decided to separate the construction and real estate development aspects of the business.
That’s when Liebo Builders was founded, I took my passion, my experiences and built my vision. I love working with people, I love seeing people’s faces when the project starts coming together, for me I put my life experience into every project, work hard, go the extra mile and get satisfaction from the results.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was not a smooth road at all. My first business in NY was lost to someone who I trusted, that was very hard for me.
There were times in my teenage years where I wasn’t able to pay my bills, lived of ramen noodle soups, I felt very alone but I put myself in a position that I had to make it no matter what, with nothing to fall back on, that took a toll on me at a young age.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Liebo Builders story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a licensed General contractor. My company specializes in high-end residential remodels. We are best known for our beautiful kitchen and bathroom remodeling.
I am proud of the reputation that I have built, the values and principles that I get to pass on to my team and clients. It’s important for me to lead by example, to instill the values that I have learned from my life into my company. To have my team look up to me as a positive figure in their lives and to be able to give back; this makes me proud.
What sets me aside from other companies is that I am personally involved in every project. I have 30 in-house employees. My teams consist of some of the most sought out tradesmen in the industry. We offer full-service construction, from our interior designers and project managers to the construction crews, we provide a stress free experience for our clients.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the industry becoming more focused on energy-efficient products. We already have “green” products but the technology is just not there yet to make it effective and practical. I could see the technology related to these products really changing the industry for the better.
The construction industry is as old as the world, there are always new products, materials, and styles that change the way people build their homes. We follow the latest trends and solutions in order to offer a better product and service to our clients.
