Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Vibert.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jimmy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story begins at an early age. Growing up I’ve dealt with high levels of anxiety. It wasn’t until a car accident at a young age that made it difficult for me to communicate. As I grew older, I told myself everyday that I wouldn’t let my stutter hinder me from my goals and aspirations.
During my high school time, I challenged myself and ran for Class President. Having to say a speech in front of my graduating class and facing my fear of public speaking built up my confidence to tackle anything I want in life. At that time I worked at Finishline a sneaker store which helped me understand that I am a people person. A couple of years later I became the first member of my family to graduate college in 2013 with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, led my team at work in sales, and moved on to working at a Mazda car dealership to start paying back those horrible student loans.
After working long hours in the car dealership, I made a decision that selling cars wasn’t enough for me. Even though I was a top salesman, I knew I had more talents. I’ve always enjoyed being creative, watching red carpet award shows on TV, Music, and Film&TV industry. So, Fall 2014 I began my entertainment/motivational blog (beyourowndad.blogspot.com) and packed my bags and moved to LA in pursuit of a job as entertainment journalism.
To fast forward to 2018, I’ve interviewed over 100’s of entertainers and athletes, have seen myself on tv, networked and created with some of the best people, and developed my own creativity to another level. Now, though I still work a 9-5, I wake up with a purpose to create and continue to build my audience that supports me every step of the way. I’m continuing to build my confidence while being in front of the camera whether its interviewing, acting, or modeling. Also, building my confidence behind the camera producing my own content and scriptwriting with Building My Empire.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
First off, I grew up in a single parent home so my journey hasn’t been easy. Luckily, I have a strong family core that supports one another. My stutter caused by my anxiety is what pushes me everyday. Some people dealing with a stutter would be afraid to be on the red carpet, in front of the camera, and flashing lights everywhere. But, I chose to use my negatives as my positive and embrace the challenge. I always keep in mind when I’m uncomfortable it means that I’m growing as an individual.
Building My Empire – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Building My Empire is a creative branding and production studio providing a resource for minority start-up founders to develop their brands, cultivate meaningful partnerships, disrupt the culture and build a legacy. We specialize in developing those first steps needed to build a brand from start.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career has been interviewing people that I’ve always looked up. People such as Tyler Perry, Rick Ross, Jermaine Dupri, Timberland, Deon Cole, and many more. Also, taking the first step in developing my own talents by doing stand up, enrolling in acting classes, and creating my own content.
