Meet Jimmy Swagg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy Swagg.

Jimmy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m from Los Angeles, California by way of Waco, Texas. I have had to FIGHT for everything I have attained and achieved in my life…and music is no different.

I am proud to be Mexican (first generation in America). My parents showed me how to live a life of discipline and dedication from a young age. Because of this characteristic that they instilled in me, I never wait on anyone to do shit for me and I keep myself moving forward.

Me and the band (The Lipstix) have quickly become the hottest act in Southern California by headlining The Whisky A Go-Go and revitalizing the sunset strip scene with a sexual aura that captivates you the moment your eyes lock onto my crazed/make-up’ed face!

Recently, I released my debut EP (No Escape) on my own record label, Cash Marley Records to a growing underground buzz!

I want to seduce you with my intoxicating performance and I want to provoke you to FEEL something…anything!

So someone doesn’t like my music, my image, my direction, or me? Who cares! I have been through so much to allow anything to bring me down now.

That’s why I am here…to disrupt everything that has become so stale for my own tongue.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! But what do you want me to tell you? For you to feel sorry for me? Nah! I chose this path. And anyone choosing greatness MUST KNOW that this shit will NOT be easy! So go ahead and get yourself acquainted with change.

The biggest struggle has been my own self. I battle myself daily. You can learn all the necessary things to attain your dream or goals, but in my opinion, what will it matter if you’re not happy?

I want to be HAPPY now and I will not compromise that.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Although I have been involved in music my entire life, it has been these last ten years where I have gone to the school, the university, and the graduate programs (metaphorically speaking) of music!

I have applied my experience into what I do now because when I started all of this only seven months ago, I didn’t know exactly where I was going, but I knew that I wanted to achieve, musically, more than I had already in the past. Without taking a single step, I knew that I would have to do things differently and with more focus.

Face paint? Rock music? Entertainment? Yeah, it’s all been done before. I am not out here to reinvent the wheel or to TRY to do anything to convince anyone. I already did that and it almost cost me my life.

I am here to do ME and nobody can fuckin’ do me…that makes me the best!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
You have to be a self-starter and maintain a discipline for yourself. No one out here is telling me to wake up early, write daily, book shows, or anything.

It’s so nuts to me how there is this assumption that you can have all you want right this second! And even though that DOES happen, that is not the norm and from those that I have witnessed attain success like that, most of the time, they lack in other areas of their lives that doesn’t allow them to fully be happy.

My point? You have to believe in what you do or else you’ll just be lazy thinking that your talent and skills will get you what you want.
