Meet Jhordan Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jhordan Harris.

Jhordan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I come from a family full of women who are beauticians and hairstyling feels like it just came naturally. My childhood home doubled as a hair salon. Growing up, my mom would have client’s come over and I would stand right underneath her soaking everything in. Occasionally she would ask if I wanted to help her with simple tasks and I was always excited and eager to jump in. Braiding and protective styling has always been my favorite. I mastered braiding at an early age and no matter where my career path has taken me, I’ve always braided in addition to my work. I’ve worked 9-5 office jobs and after clocking out, I would rush home to braid. It has never felt like work to me. My husband always noticed my passion for it and also how quickly my clientele was growing and he inspired me to work for myself. I put a plan in place to accomplish that goal and I’m beyond grateful that for the past few years, I’ve worked in an amazing salon and more recently in a salon of my own.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Truthfully it has been one of the more smooth and seamless experiences of my life. I’m a firm believer in the idea that if something is meant for you it will happen. I believed deeply in my heart that this was the path for me. I’ve also met so many amazing people and clients along the way that have shown endless love and support. I am deeply grateful for where I am today.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a braider/protective stylists. I am most known for my colorful and intricate braiding styles. I am most proud of my transition from the 9-5 office life into working in my own private salon space. I’ve grown so much and so quickly, I can hardly keep up at times. My entire experience has been a pure joy. What sets me apart from other stylists is my ability to connect with people. I can truly say that at this point it’s hard to say “client” because so many people have become great friends. Braiding generally takes a few hours and within those appointments, it’s been like free therapy. I’ve created a space where I hope that all of my clients feel comfortable, safe, and a sense of freedom and relaxation that we all deserve.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I had a personality that could fill up a room. I certainly wasn’t shy and was always willing to jump in for anything. I was the kid who was totally ok with raising my hand, asking questions, and being curious. My family always jokes about me waking up in the morning with a smile already. It has always been a ritual of mine to get out of bed and say good morning to everyone. I’m pretty goofy and people will realize I’m completely at ease when I turn into a comedian. From as early as I can remember, I’ve always had an awareness of how short life is. I try to cherish each moment and have fun. I’ve always been into art and science. Writing, dancing, music, braiding, outer space, psychology, and dinosaurs are just a few of my interests. I also love face to face interactions. I’m definitely an analog girl in a digital world.
