Meet Jessica Sinclair of Sinclair Master of Ceremonies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Sinclair.

Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started hosting events by watching my brother for years entertain our family. I come from a BIG loving family and we always put people first. I loved the attention he received and the jokes he gave. I also love to see the looks of the faces of the people and I said one day I’m going to be an entertainer, I’m going to be better then him. I then went to school for a communications degree on the publicity side and help facilitate the concert series. One day I got on the stage to introduce an artist at an open mic and I said I’m going to start a business and do this thing called emceeing. Life redirects you and I got into heathcare as PR wasn’t really as thrilling as it use to be so I started my own business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So many struggles when you are a female entrepreneur because of the lack of support from other women, people of the same race. You look to do things on your own when you’re starting a business. I’m working a full-time job, funding, time management, etc. I did a lot of videos on my phone and then hired my sister to record me. Collaboration definitely aided in the moments that seemed to be more of a struggle. I was honored to have a Brooklyn designer, Abeline Blake, design my red carpet looks. Consistency is key as well. Networking is definitely something that could become frustrating since companies look at startups as not being credible, so you have to be able to be confident in what it is you’re speaking about (your business) and know your business better than anyone else. Because of the struggles I saw others have, I started a workshop, Network like you mean it, teaching fundamental skills on how to communicate with people and get what you want by paying it forward.
