Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessica. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Having taken time off from a busy career to have my beautiful girls, Sydney and Georgie, I found myself at a crossroads when I got an offer for a big job back in the corporate finance world. The office was located in the South Bay, and our home in Sherman Oaks. I knew right away that if I took this job, I’d be gone from 7 am- 7 pm all week, and although I wanted to get back into the world (and we could use the money), I kept thinking that there had to be another way.
At that point, I had been lucky to stay at home with my little gals for over five years. I had considered doing something with my cookies over the years because many friends and family had requested cookies in lieu of gifts and my husband and I LOVED these cookies and really believed that they were something special.
Over the Christmas break holiday in 2017, I told my family that I was going to start a cookie business. I had been listening to the radio with my husband one weekend and heard Evan Klienman on Good Food say that the City of Los Angeles had just approved the Cottage Food permit license so I could bake at home and still find time to be a mom to my girls. It took a few months to get the permits, bank accounts, and LLC papers filed.
With those things in hand, I reached out to all my corporate office contacts and began to form a little book of business throughout Los Angeles. I baked and delivered thousands and thousands of cookies over the next year, and my business expanded primarily from word-of-mouth. Now I am focused on growing the business and get Mrs. Chips Cookies into stores in the fresh bakery section.
It’s a dream come true to have people respond to my cookies the way they have. It’s a real experience — they are a touch crisp on the outside with a perfect chewy center, each cookie is hand-topped with French sea salt which does this magical thing on your taste buds. A chocolate chip cookie this good is hard to find, but now the search is over!
Has it been a smooth road?
The transformation between a home-based business into one that can deliver to stores all over the country in huge quantities has come with its share of challenges, and we are still in this transitional stage now. We are working on getting the ability to order cookies online and deliver them around the world.
This is something that we hope to be up on our website by March 2019. Also, finding vendors for all the things Mrs. Chips Cookies needs is challenging– packaging that shows off our cookies, so people can see how different they are compared to other brands, while still ensuring freshness is a touch harder than one would think.

Yes, I feel like my location has actually been a huge benefit to my company–because of our proximity to all things in the entertainment, media & tech worlds — my orders and biggest supporters have been from locals that have huge fans themselves, so when they have shared about my cookies– it has really got people in the city excited about my cookies.
