Meet Jessica of Bad&Bruja Lashes in Inland Empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica.

Jessica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I graduated from college, I studied Law, and just after graduating and testing the waters I knew it wasn’t for me… it just wasn’t who I was. I’ve always been into art and creating, it’s always been a passion of mine ever since I can remember. I eventually got into the makeup industry as a mua (Makeup artist) for a few makeup companies here and there.

Not too soon after, I became a mommy, and I kinda had no time to get full glam like I use to. My new go to look was literally the makeup basics and always bold lashes. I never really found lashes that I “loved,” so I would cut up or stack lashes and just customize them to my own liking. From there people started noticing and wanted me to make them their own custom lashes.

That’s how the idea all started, and a light bulb in my head kinda clicked. It took about one year of research, saving, developing and finding a trusted company to assist in creating some of my designs. I also had a lot of motivation from close friends and family. That’s how Bad&Bruja Lashes was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
Ahh, nothing’s ever perfect. I can tell, you are working your own business the struggles are more self-doubt than anything. Take a break, remember why and who you are as a business, that mantra can always help you snap out of that funk.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Bad&Bruja Lashes was created from an idea I had of an unspoken alter ego I feel most people have. Badass, but magical, and most definitely unapologetic. We specialize in (affordable) cruelty-free and vegan eyelashes and are inclusive to all lifestyles. For men and women, pro makeup artist, beginning makeup artists, a mommy on the go, boss babes and the brujas. We have an eyelash for everyone.

I think we are known for our bold lash names. Each collection created, each style of lash, all have meanings behind them. In today’s society, it’s common to be labeled and/or defined by the “bad” side. The slang, slurs, curse words, and negative context- I took those “bad” parts and made it into something good to own up to, in a badass way. Plus being Mexican American, I added a touch of latinx of course.

I’m proud of the continued support. I’m proud of my business growth. I’m proud of myself. I love when I get a message from a customer saying how beautiful they felt after putting my lashes on. Excuse my language, but that sh*t makes my heart happy!

My plans within the future is to grow and branch out. I have plans very, very soon to hopefully have some of our lashes in stores. And Definitely more collabs – I’m all about community over competition, so id love to work with other small businesses.
