Meet Jessi Vaage of Vaage Design in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Vaage.

Jessi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started taking art seriously in June of 2015–when I got my Instagram account. That was my sophomore year of high school, but now I just finished up my junior year of college! I am graduating with my degree in Art in Fall of 2020 at California State University, Fullerton. I’m an almost 21 years old (June 4th), and I love to paint, do graphic design, design websites, and now create metal signs with my Dad. I like to describe my artistic style as expressive and edgy but also maintaining classy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I mean, having my own business has been a little rough. I’m just now starting to take the business aspect of my career seriously, so learning about that has been tough. I just spent literal hours that added up to days on personal branding. Instead of @jessisdrawings, I will now be known as Vaage Design.

Please tell us more about your art.
I am known for my artwork! I have over 74K followers on Tiktok (@vaagedesign), and I post my art videos on there. Not only do I love painting on canvases, but I also have been known to paint on paintbrushes, vinyl records, roller skates, clipboards–you name it! I like to have lots of color in my work.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I’m from the High Desert, more specifically Apple Valley, CA. I grew up there until I went to Orange County for college. I don’t think I ever expected myself to go into something like this. I feel like I am now a better version of myself.
