Meet Jessi Melani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Melani.

Jessi, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
“Hey ya’ll! It’s ya girl, Jessi Melani! I am an agency model based in NY and LA. I was born in Brussels, Belgium and raised in Palm Beach, Florida and I’m 23 years wise! I can briefly walk you through my story by saying, after going through an unhealthy relationship and decided I wanted better for myself, I embarked on a spiritual journey of self love, growth and awareness. Modeling found its way to me a few months later and I had found my true passion. The hustle to make my dreams become my reality took a step even deeper.

Two years after pulling gigs on my own, I signed to my dream agency. Four months down the road after not booking anything, my agent wanted me to visit LA for two weeks to attend casting calls. I figured I might as well try to find a place out there! After two days of her telling me that, I got on a plane, flew to LA, and moved into my dream apartment a week from when I landed! I inspire people every day to be authentic, live in your truth and live the life of your dreams that YOU create!

I’m most thankful to have the support of my mom who raised me and my family that I am so close to. It takes a village to make you, you! Each day I’m focused on creating, and watching life work for me for the highest good!”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve had my rough patches in life like everyone else. At 18 years old I ran away from home, across the United States to my boyfriend at the time who wasn’t any good for me. There was a domino effect of moving multiple times all on my own after. My relationship with my boyfriend put a strain on the relationship I had with my mom. Luckily, I came to the realization that I was lacking love for myself and my life would never be the same again.

However, I am so grateful for that experience because without it I wouldn’t have grown up so fast and accomplished what I have, nor would I have become the woman I am today. I have a positive outlook on life. I live knowing that down times are lessons to learn from. Nothing is a coincidence as everything happens for a reason.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
As a model, I get booked through my agency, Natural Models LA. Before Covid-19 I actually I got signed to a New York Agency, I can’t share details just yet! Models have no set schedule so when I’m not working it’s important for me to keep my mind and body active. I enjoy catching up with my family and friends and engaging with my audience in my down time or creating content.

I am known for being bubbly, unapologetic, and for my energy being a light! I am most proud of how far I have come and how I remain my true self, especially in a place like Hollywood.

But my mind sets me apart, my wisdom. I’m an old soul that’s gone through a life time of events as such a young age. My ideas are constantly evolving and my creativity is unmatched!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up as a little girl I had the most fun making people laugh by imitating family members or strangers. Dancing has always been a part of me, it brings myself and others joy! At two years old I was watching MTV with my big brother, whining my hips in the mirror and gyrating my bum… at two!

My family would describe me as a “brat” to this day. I am the baby of three and was always sassy as a toddler, no one could tell me what to do! I ran the house. Since I was a little girl, I’ve been passionate about expressing myself and challenging others to do the same. Communication and setting expectations have always been important in my relationships. Yes, even at five years old!

Those that know me would describe me as “EXTRA”! I mean, I had a Sweet 16, and was LATE to it and had an ENTRANCE with my friends. I hopped out of my mom’s Honda with my long dress and proceeded to hit the red carpet to 2 Chainz “Birthday Song”! My friends then handed me flowers and placed a sash over my shoulders that my mom made, “Bad B*tch Contest ~ First Place” pageant style. If that doesn’t paint a picture for you, honey!

I always knew I would be famous, or be somebody. I had that sense come over me around eight years old. I didn’t know why or how. My nick name was “Jessica The Giant,” I was always tall. Picture day at school? You don’t even have to tell me where to go as we were always lined up tallest to shortest, “excuse me!”

People would always ask if I was a model and encouraged me to get into it. I thought my discovery story would be getting scouted in a mall. It didn’t go that way! I grew to be 5’8! I love my height and sometimes wish I was taller! All in all, I am the same Jessi… Sweet, loving and extra!
