Meet Jess Words of The Editing Boutique in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Words.

Jess, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in love with writing and literature since I can remember. I used to walk around with a little notebook and pen in my pocket. Sometimes I still do because there’s not another feeling that can compare. Anyway, when I started making friends in the e-book community, I naturally gravitated toward helping with manuscripts and with a lot of soul searching and preparation, The Editing Boutique was born from there.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m still very early in my journey as an editor and entrepreneur so I wouldn’t say there’s been a smooth road as of yet. One of my greatest struggles has been overcoming my fears and allowing myself to believe in my own abilities. I think a lot of entrepreneurs, no matter the industry deal with that.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Editing Boutique – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
The Editing Boutique is my passion meets purpose baby! We’re specializing in fundamental (copy) and developmental (line) editing in urban fiction, women’s fiction, and urban and contemporary romance.

I’m genuinely looking to build bonds with the authors I work with. I want to know about them, the characters they’ve spent so much time cultivating and growing, the worlds they’ve built within the pages of their manuscript. I feel that’s what sets The Editing Boutique apart. My approach is to become just as invested in the character’s voices and stories. In that way, the process flows much more organically and the authors don’t feel as if their creativity is being impeded on.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to expanding into editing screenplays and connecting with dope creatives. I am definitely aiming to make The Editing Boutique a one-stop-shop for all things editing, from Beta Readers to Content Editors and everything in between.
