Meet Jenny Hill and Catherine Keefer of JC Room Blocks in Santa Clarita Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Hill and Catherine Keefer.

Jenny and Catherine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
JC Room Blocks was born when two best friends recognized that bridal couples needed help setting up hotel room blocks for out of town wedding guests. We started small in early 2013 with friends and family. Word quickly spread among the wedding planning community about the two gals who could negotiate great room rates for groups at hotels and get some pretty great perks and freebies in the process. Let’s face it – there are lots of fun things that go along with wedding planning (finding the dress, cake tastings, selecting ceremony music, etc.) and hotel contract negotiations doesn’t typically fall under that category! Over the years, we’ve grown to service bridal couples nationwide and have expanded our client base to educational groups and corporate events.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Throughout our journey, we have experienced some road bumps along the way. Finding a work/life balance is an ongoing struggle. As small business owners, everything falls on our shoulders. We take our work very seriously and aim to provide the very best in customer service to our clients. That means a lot of late night emails and working on the weekends. We’ve both recently started families and throwing kids into the mix has been challenging to say the least. However, being open and perceptive to change has been helpful. Also, stepping away from work and living in the moment with our families has definitely proven to be a way to recharge.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with JC Room Blocks – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We set up hotel room blocks for weddings and special events. We are known for negotiating the best possible hotel room rates, obtaining great concessions for our clients like free bridal suites and managing the room block(s) from start to finish. We specialize in groups that require more than 10 hotel rooms per night. We are a small, boutique company that focuses on exemplary customer service. While our competitors may be more “high tech”, we contend that we are the most “high touch”. We strive to make a personal connection with each of our clients and celebrate them as a couple. We are most proud of the work that we have done for our clients and the referrals that we have generated just through word of mouth. A recommendation to a friend or family member is the highest compliment that we could ever receive from a past client and referrals make up much of our new business.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We plan on continuing to grow JC Room Blocks and be open to unique and new opportunities. We’ve recently started a Planner Program where we partner with wedding and event planners nationwide to assist in setting up room blocks for their clients. Overall, our plan is to continue to do what we love while having the freedom to work from home with our families!
