Meet Jenny Chang of Rock N’ Events in Playa Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Chang.

Jenny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I would be more than happy to walk you through my career journey. Thank you for the opportunity to speak out LA Voyage. How I started my journey really just came from a desire to succeed in this career bad enough. I don’t have the story that started in planning my family or friend’s wedding. Funny thing is, I’ve never actually been to a wedding in my life before starting the company, hahaha. People get a kick out of that. It’s the truth, I’ve never been to a wedding, or planned a birthday party before I became a party planner, but I did party a lot in high school! When I was introduced to the career as a freshman at the Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising (FIDM), I fell in love with every element that went into planning weddings – management, production, design, working with happy people, and ‘love.’ Oh, yes, love. My love for ‘love’ has definitely got me a sucker for this career. So after realizing this career was made for me, I specialized my education around this field and started my business after 2 years of college. Every checklist, timeline, contract and everything else you can think of to plan the logistics of an event was built from scratch. My desire and passion for wedding design and coordination made me almost insane about it. I wanted to learn everything on my own, and create a system that would be like nothing else out there in the industry. Which brought me to create the one and only, Rock N’ Events.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have to admit it wasn’t a smooth road. It was quite bumpy, actually. My desire and confidence in my ability to design and plan weddings weren’t enough for people to trust me with their biggest day, and frankly, I don’t blame them. I was a young college graduate, almost begging people to give me a chance. Perhaps I came off too eager haha. My career is visual- at least when you’re trying to impress someone with your work. I needed a couple to trust that I can give them something spectacular, but no one gave me that opportunity, at least not for a while. The other hurdle I overcame during my journey was being strong enough to break relationships with vendors in the industry before I even began building them. I realized very quickly that the industry was full of smoke and mirrors, and it wasn’t in favor of innocent newly engaged couples. I realized the industry saw weddings as a numbers game, and not as a special and once-in-a-lifetime occasion anymore. Maybe I’m still naive, but that’s what makes Rock N’ Events so different today – we represent our members and do not work for the industry. We guide our members into a wedding planning journey in the great and loyal hands of trusting coordinators. They’re going to experience everything in the journey only, once. Every couple deserves to have the wedding they’ve always dreamt of, and save money at the same time.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rock N’ Events – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Rock N’ Events is a team of empowered men and women that produce celebrations like you have never seen or experienced before. I’ve designed a house for the most meticulous and detailed event producers in the world. We’ve been awarded to be the Top 10 Best Wedding Planners in LA, OC, and Worldwide by Junebug Weddings. The awards and publication opportunities are extremely flattering, especially after only 3 years of the startup, but my greatest accomplishment was building the Rock N’ Events team. Anyone can start a company, but not every startup can be gifted with such an incredible and loyal team like the men and women that represent Rock N’ Events. I’m so grateful for everyone that takes pride in cherishing this company like it’s their own, and that’s my greatest asset. What sets us apart from others, aside from our brand, I’d say would be the value we commit to when we are planning weddings. A wedding journey is not to be celebrated with a ‘planner,’ it’s supposed to be celebrated with a “best friend.” Think of us as your highly professional best friends that party and plan with you. We’re all the greatest friends with our star members, and I’m confident that’s the reason our coordinators and members are so happy.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m most looking forward to the festivals we’ll be planning soon! Yes, we’ll start planning our very own festivals, concerts, and Summer Slap events! I hope you all will stay tuned for the big events coming your way! We’ll continue to design and coordinate weddings, and all special occasions, globally. We’ll be touring worldwide with our unparalleled energy and events. We recently opened a storefront in San Francisco, so I’m thinking, New York and London next?! Throughout the journey, we plan on making a stamp at every stop and make a change in this industry for the greater good. Stay tuned! Thank you again for the interview Voyage LA.     Jenny and her team went beyond their call of duty to ensure that my daughter wedding was everything she imagined it to be. Thank you Rock N Events for making my daughter dream wedding come true.
