Meet Jenny Chang in Marina Del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Chang.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was 19-years old with an intention and hunger to produce weddings. Mind you, I’d never been to a wedding in my life before building this career. I started my first startup company, Rock N’ Events, with no higher education other than an associates degree at a fashion school. When I graduated college, I expected every opportunity to be hired as an event planner, however, I quickly realized that with no credibility, I had little to no chance in this industry. I was shut down interview after interview for six months.

Finally, I decided if no one was going to hire me for my passion, then I’d hire myself.

Starting the logistics of my startup when I was 19, and officially launching it two years later, I became one of the Top 10 Best Planners Worldwide by June Bug Weddings by the second year of my business. Today, I’ve expanded my first startup to Northern and Southern California, built three more successful businesses, consulted other startups and on my way to launch an app that’s designed to revolutionize my industry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey to becoming who I am today meant I had to knock people with limited support, discharge unmotivated employees and unapologetically even discharge clients that don’t value my business passions. None of this comes easily, but all the challenges are my greatest pride and awards. There’s a science to planning events, as well as starting any brand/company and I’m proud to master the chemistry of what makes a successful business-owner year after year. Of all challenges in my career, I’d say my personal struggle to recognize my small to large success was the hardest to overcome. As a visionary, I’m constantly seeing the next perfect idea to create and I revolve the world around it until it comes to life. Doing so, I found myself forgetting to celebrate the smallest to largest accomplishments.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Jenny Chang story. Tell us more about the business.
In the world of celebration planning, I am recognized as the Magnet of Experiences. I approach the world of weddings, event design and production different than most. Trust. I don’t just produce Gatsby-like parties — I create an experience and it’s these timeless and millionaire moments that set me apart from others. In addition, I have a passion that most can’t compete with.

After all, I am Jenny Chang.

The sphere of celebration planning is where I specialize, however, I’ve leveraged my experience and reputation to consult other startups, write for Thought Catalog, teach at Rock N’ University and have a side hobby to revolutionize my industry with my newly developed app.

What sets me apart is my ability to have that intention to make people happy — really happy and implement bold decisions to achieve that through both my success and failures.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe ‘luck’ had much to do with my success, today. Everything I’ve created is born through determination and a hunger to succeed, the team I surround myself with are attracted by a like-attracts-like mentality and we have offer quality service because people believe in our intentions and plans. Bad luck is never really ‘bad,’ since all challenges are necessary to reach the level of success worth writing home about.
