Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Christian.
Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2015 I coined myself as the FLY FIT MOMMY. I had just given birth to twins, months prior and was learning how to navigate life as a mother of four. I was inspired by the final post on necolebitchie.com, to just go for it and live in my truth. Here I was, a mother drowning in post-partum depression and silently crying for help. When I came up with fly fit mommy, it was not about being a cute mom with a nice body and putting on for the gram. It was about sharing my journey of depression and how to have positive mental health. I was a mother that had four kids in four years. I looked damn good physically but mentally I was a hot mess. I knew there had to be others that felt like me and if sharing my trials helped just one other mom, my job was done.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being this persona I have created has not been easy. I still struggle with depression and anxiety which sometimes makes it difficult for me to create content for my social presence. I also experienced a weight gain and because I was naturally thin, I had no how to lose it. I never had to be disciplined with dieting and exercise. Nevertheless, these struggles make my purpose more authentic because I share these experiences.
Tell us more about the business.
Fly Fit Mommy promotes a healthy balance with motherhood and mental health. I have been speaking out about depression in motherhood before celebrities like Serena Williams and Beyonce, shared their stories. I am grateful for them speaking out because it has been something women have suffered in silence with. My platform is different from others because it is not all about beautiful family portraits and matching mommy daughter outfits. It is real life motherhood from a normal mom that struggles with mental health works full-time and has four amazing yet busy kids. I am so proud to be able to share my journey with others and being so transparent has worked in so many ways. Moms are always in my DMs venting and just being honest about their feelings.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
At the start of Fly Fit Mommy I had fitness group sessions and somehow got off course with that. In 2020, I plan to start back working out with other moms. I also will be revamping the Diary of a Fly Fit Mommy podcast, which is available on Apple Itunes. I will continue to host mom support groups monthly and hope to do a few speaking engagements on motherhood.
