Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Levin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jenn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was a skeptic. I didn’t think hypnosis would work but was desperate for change. I was working in a demanding, fast pace job producing a weekly talk show and would find myself typing up scripts while cracking my jaw non-stop. It was embarrassing, unhealthy and so frustrating. It was a bad habit I had for over 25 years and I had no idea how to stop.
My conscious mind was saying, “stop”, but I couldn’t control it. Finally, my therapist recommended hypnotherapy. I didn’t think it would work but gave it a shot. I was SHOCKED when the habit literally disappeared within three sessions.
After experiencing the power of hypnosis first hand, I was excited to see what else it could work for. Not only did I use it to overcome anxiety around childbirth, auditioning and making speeches, but also to increase my tolerance to stress, be on time and improve my relationships.
After having my first daughter, I was really struggling to redefine myself. It was a light bulb moment when I realized I could become a Hypnotherapist myself! I love connecting with people on a deeper level. If someone is struggling, I want to help. I believe hypnosis is overlooked by most people or has a stigma around it thanks to the media and the stage shows. But it has been extensively researched and study after study show its benefits for a multitude of conditions. I want to give hope to others. The subconscious mind is more powerful than you think! Hypnosis can give you a happier and healthier life. It truly has been life changing for me!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I enrolled in a yearlong Hypnotherapy program at HMI College and ended up having my second daughter right in the middle of it. Trying to finish school, build a business and care for a newborn almost broke me. I experienced a lot of postpartum anxiety. I had these repetitive thoughts like, “Motherhood is torture” and “I’m losing my mind.” I knew I needed some help but felt like I should have the tools to manage the postpartum on my own. Hypnotherapist don’t take meds; they do self-hypnosis right?! But after the encouragement of a friend, I finally broke down to my doctor and admitted how much I was struggling. She gave me medication that completely changed my life. I have been able to enjoy motherhood and be a better mom as a result. I think there is a pressure in the holistic health community to avoid meds but I want to encourage everyone that you can merge the best of holistic and western medicine to bring wellness and joy into your life.
Please tell us about Modern Hypnotherapy.
I am a Certified Hypnotherapist and founder of Modern Hypnotherapy based in Glendale, CA. My mission is to unlock the power of the subconscious mind to help women and men achieve their health, love and career goals.
I specialize in childbirth, weight loss, breaking bad habits, and overcoming anxiety & fear.
What sets me apart is that I worked in the entertainment industry for over 25 years. I understand the ups and downs, victories and sacrifices that come with working in this field. I help many entertainment professionals to improve their health, build confidence and find work/life balance.
What sets hypnotherapy apart from other forms of therapy is that you can usually see results pretty quickly. Our conscious mind is only about 12% of our brain while the subconscious is 88%! Instead of just bringing up and analyzing problems on the conscious level we dive into the subconscious to help you achieve your goals. Most people leave feeling great. It’s like a massage for the mind or meditation with a goal.
I am proud to give back to the community by offering free, monthly, group hypnosis workshops such as Hypnosis for Weight Loss, Attracting Love, and Career Success.
I also host a weekly parent and me class called HypnoBabes. Each week there is a different topic ranging from Romance after Baby to Hypnosis to Reduce Anxiety & Increase Trust. I like to support other female, small business owners by finding experts to come teach topics such as Baby Sign Language, Sleep Consulting and RIE Parenting. Once a month I do a Brunch with Baby and feed everyone. My goal is to build community and to nourish parents who are so busy caring for a child that they can barely feed themselves. So far, this class has been built by word of mouth only and I strive to bring in people who support one another in a judgment-free space.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memories are “Pasta Sundays!” at Nana & Papa’s house. Every week my grandma would make a big pot of sauce and all my aunts, uncles and cousins would get together to eat and chat for hours. We never got bored of each other. We really embraced the idea of being Italian even though we are really only half. So every week we would eat Italian bread with American cheese melted all over it, rigatoni pasta and some dessert usually made by “Momma Costco.” I remember eating the soaked peaches out of my papa’s homemade wine and hiding under the table to tie the adult’s shoelaces together as a routine prank. My cousins and I would entertain our family with “shows” in an attempt to collect money to fund our “Fun Club” so we could take trips to places like Chucke Cheese. A magic show might involve locking my sister in a truck in the closet for which she would miraculously disappear. It was so much fun and I cherish these childhood memories. Family is one of my core values, along with relationships and connection.
