Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Fliegler.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeffrey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey to starting The Point Solutions takes about as many turns as an episode of Breaking Bad. My professional career started in the late ’90s, as a chef. In fact, I worked as a chef for sixteen years in Michelin Star restaurants and abroad in Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia. I suffered a back injury and had to figure out what I was going to do.
I became a financial adviser for two years before coming up with a great idea, or so we thought, with my Dad, David Fliegler. Our plans were to start a marketing and financial company under the same roof. We would create content and websites for companies at a huge discount and make money on the 401K plans and Health Insurance. Our first few clients wanted marketing but didn’t need the financial. I quickly taught myself how to make a website and one a client asked if we do video. We pick up our old Nikon Camera and started shooting.
This lead to a personal project called GrubTribe, featuring chefs, bartenders, and restauranteurs. We would put together short video interviews and demos and our blog won the best food influencer in Orange County 2016. I realized this form of content creation could be useful for businesses of all kinds. The Point Solutions finally had an identity and has been thriving ever since.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting your own business from scratch is a rollercoaster. I was in a position where I had to make a career change because of an unfortunate circumstance. At first, the challenge was to gain creditability. The next part was getting clients. Now it finding the right clients. There are months when I’m on the path to greatness and then one small thing changes and that path feels like it heading toward homelessness. Managing the mindset is so important.
People can tell when you’re lacking confidence. When you’re having doubt you need to figure out how not to let it show. Being in business for yourself is hard, and your constantly facing ups and downs. I started reading a lot of books on stoicism to help shape my mindset.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We make people look good on-line. We make your Websites, Content (Videos, Photos, Graphic design) and then distribute to targeted audiences through paid media. We have won numerous awards for our content and have had a documentary film showcased in the Newport Beach Film Festival.
I think what makes us special is the value and capabilities we bring to the table. Most people need 3-4 solutions to create campaigns that are as effective as ours. Maybe they could hire a full-scale agency, but that would cost them a fortune. We’re the perfect medium for most companies.
What were you like growing up?
Ah man, when I was a teenager I was out of control. I was a nice kid, but out of mind. I love skating, surfing and listen to music and doing art projects. I was smart but I was always getting out of class to do something fun. It all changed when I went to Culinary school and I got my ass kicked by one of the chefs. I learned discipline, work-ethic and focus through cooking in high-end restaurants.
