Meet JD McGibney

Today we’d like to introduce you to JD McGibney.

JD, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised on Long Island, New York. I spent my late high school and early college years performing in the local music circuit until I graduated college. After which, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. Early on, I interned for Tuff Gong Worldwide (Ziggy Marley’s record label). I got myself involved in the music industry by volunteering my time wherever I could. I ended up touring as a goblin for the LA-based band Nekrogoblikon for about two years. I also toured with the band Voodoo Kungfu, started an original band called Angels on the Battlefield, developed a guitar composition course for around AOTB, and I’ve done a whole bunch of studio session work.

Since the middle/end of last year (2019), I teamed up with my mentor and best friend to grow his production company, BBR Productions. Around the end of last year, I relocated to NYC to help facilitate this, but we both still have ties and business in Los Angeles. Our goal was to grow a platform for beginning entertainers to find their initial “yes” of getting into the entertainment industry. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to have their dreams brought to reality. With COVID in full swing, we put together a short film festival to help raise people’s spirits and to celebrate the hard work and passion of independent filmmakers.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been a mixture of both smooth and rocky moments along the road. Life tends to throw us curveballs, especially when we least expect them. The journey has definitely not been what I expected, but I have always maintained the direction in which I wish to go.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
No matter what it is I do, whether it is in regards to music or with BBR Productions, my goal is to always inspire people to follow their hearts. Each and every one of us deserves to do what makes us happy, and each and every one of us has the ability to bring those dreams to life.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is my very first dog, Thunder. He was a GIANT blue merle collie that my family got from my grandfather (he used to breed and show collies). My parents got him just shortly before I was born. He pretty much acted like my big brother and we were best friends!
