Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylin Bolden.
During the summer of 2018, Jaylin Bolden started her Graphic Design journey. She became a freelance graphic designer for small businesses and big organizations. Because she is a self-taught designer, she offered new services gradually. Today, her services range from custom logos, business card designs, flyers, brochures, websites, and more. This industry has allowed her to network and conduct business with clients in California, New York, Los Angeles, London, Ireland, Nigeria, and more. During her first two years, Jaylin has grossed over 90k and produce an average of 20 orders a week with graphics.
On her graphic design journey, she has developed better skills as a business owner that helps her daily. Whenever Bolden goes to speaking engagements, she emphasizes how communication and patience are huge “must-have” skills in her industry. She discusses that communication leads to credibility and patience leads to accepting constructive criticism.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Jaylin has faced so many challenges on this entrepreneurial journey. The main challenge was being underestimated because of her age. Jaylin started this journey at the age of 18. Now, being 20 years old, a few clients will still try to take advantage because of her little experience. Starting out, clients tried to negotiate her prices, ask for discounts and more. These challenges devalued her work. In 2019, she came to the conclusion that she needs to charge her worth.
