Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Ortegon.
Jason, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in Stockton, California, I always dreamed of living in Los Angeles. I grew up around homes my whole life since my dad worked in construction. I was always a lover of my education, real estate and entertainment. I did children’s theater for about five years and went on to high school graduating with a 4.33 GPA.
Following high school, I wanted to make something of myself. I got my real estate license that following year while attending California State University Long Beach. I dedicated four years of my life studying business marketing and working in real estate. I graduated in May 2019.
Focusing on both real estate and marketing, I started my marketing consulting company called Ortegon Marketing & Consulting. I help small businesses with their marketing efforts to increase exposure, sales or whatever their needs are. One of my favorite clients was Hot Java in Long Beach, a small coffee shop that has a large LGBTQ presence and following. This client was special to me because I came out as being gay prior to Hot Java being my clients. I increased Hot Java’s exposure and increased sales while working with them.
My senior year of college, I decided to pursue my love for entertainment. I created my hip-hop EP called Flip Side which features one of my favorite songs “JIGGY”. I created my stage name “Nosaj Gray” and released it via Apple Music, Spotify and other streaming services. I feel as if there is not a huge Gay or Latin-American presence in hip- hop. What drives me to keep making music is that I want to empower others to have fun and live their best true life by leading as the example.
Currently, I focus on music, marketing and real estate. The three things that keep me going!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of my biggest obstacles/challenges was being molested. I took a long time to speak up or deal with it. I didn’t tell anyone or anything till my second year of college. After bringing the situation to light and dealing with it, head on, so much relief was brought to me. The mental block that scared me was now faded so that I was able to focus on me and my career whole heatedly.
On a lighter note, when I first started my career, my age was a little bit of a challenge for me at first. I started working in real estate when I was 18, so being that young around well-established competitors, some weren’t as confident with working with me. I was able to overcome this challenge by having even more confidence and assuring my clients that I knew what I was doing. Since I had a lot of knowledge and experience in this field, I found it beneficial to inform my clients so that they also gain knowledge by working with me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
I am an entrepreneur, my biggest reward is helping others and seeing smiles on their faces!
I am a licensed real estate agent that focuses on investment multi-family properties (apartment buildings). I help people invest into real estate whether it’s them selling or buying. I offer the knowledge, experience and guidance to help people invest their money into properties that will bring them a great return on their investment.
In addition to real estate, I own a marketing company that helps people and their businesses. I listen to my clients’ needs and problems and I come up with creative and innovative ways to fulfill their needs. I started off helping coffee shops increase revenue and rebranding, boutiques with digital exposure, clothing lines with creative directing. More recently, I have been helping people get their real estate license with a marketing/real estate program I offer under my business “Ortegon Marketing & Consulting”.
I am most known for getting the job done. I pride myself on making sure the needs of my clients are met in both marketing and real estate.
My career consists of marketing, music and real estate. My passion to succeed and make people happy is what sets me apart from others because I love what I do and you can see it. My word is everything and I work hard on being impeccable.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would not change much because I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. However, If I were to do anything differently, I would remind myself to not be so hard on myself. Sometimes I can be my own worst critic and I realized recently that when I am too hard on myself, I bring myself down and that is not beneficial. I function better and feel better when I remind myself that I am doing enough and I am doing a great job at it.
