Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Lopes.
Jason, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I first started in college athletics as a division 1 college strength and conditioning coach, I always had a special way of connecting with individuals and seeing their holes in performance and how to facilitate proper programming to bring the best out of them. Through my time as a coach, I’ve had my athletes break school records in performance and all-time records list with scoring and other metrics.
I have always been obsessed with the human body and even before I got my degree in exercise science, I would sit right in the halls of Barns and Noble book stores and just read as many books on performance and physiology as I could.
I soon moved on being a private trainer for a lot of professional agencies working with developing athletes moving into the professional team realm.
Still, on my mission continuing to grow, I wanted to diversify and start to cater to a new crowd leaving sport-specific athletic training behind and see what Los Angeles specifically was all about in the world of personal training.
From having to step aside from that avenue of athletic training, I relocated from northern California to Los Angeles to pursue personal training in the Hollywood / Beverly Hills area. This would allow me to be more stationary and continue to sharpen my craft being an elite personal trainer. Since being in LA, I have worked with many amazing individuals from Dr.’s to media celebrities to high profile Instagram influencers.
I was able to gain a great clientele quickly and worked with a bunch of amazing gyms in the area with my main team at Royal Personal Training. I was with them since the major upbringing and expansion of their wonderful facility. I was able to make a great relationship with the team and being apart of their huge growth through these last three years.
Like all great things, they soon need to come to and end and time to start a new chapter in my life. My family was growing with the addition of my second child on the way so I decided to relocate up to Santa Clarita to settle down and show them the best upbringing possible.
From all I have learned through my fitness path so far, I decided to create my own facility through my eyes from all the pros and cons I have seen first hand from all the gyms and institutions I have been apart of over the years.
This is where the inception Fitstyle LA came to be.
I wanted to make an LA vibe up in Santa Clarita with an amazing staff of fun, professional, and most importantly individual team members to make a diverse squad of super trainers.
First mission was to create the ultimate training environment so I put all my time effort resources etc. into making the best facility possible to cater to all individuals from beginners to experienced fitness enthusiasts.
From all this Fitstyle LA was born!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like all great stories come struggle!
There were many challenges along my path that have only made me stronger and a better individual in the fitness industry.
From being in a lot of different areas of fitness to collegiate strength training to professional athlete development to personal training. I was able to diversify my vision and adaptability in training to acquire many tools in my box to apply great training tactics and results to all of my clients.
So I have had to acclimate quickly in a lot of environments which can be very stressful but you have to keep and open mind stay humble and always keep your hands open in the willingness to learn.
In addition to being in many fields, this forced me to relocate many times though out California from northern California, central California and now to LA.
I’ve had to adapt quickly and hustle extremely hard since my absence of the college athletics I have been a fully and independent trainer so through all of my ventures since I’ve had to do business myself, acquire all my clients, athletes, and business contracts as well as provide for my family being a good father and husband.
Everything for me has always been independent so the work is always 2x as hard but the reward for me is aways 10x
Everything up until now has taught be to be extremely patient and for every idea and new project comes twice as many roadblocks.
Though budget problems to construction issues, equipment orders, scheduling delays, and of course Covid-19
The key is always to be on your toes, patient, and willing to adapt to sudden twists and turns.
If you can do that you can do anything.
