Meet Jason Ferguson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Ferguson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jason. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I am committed to serving others and helping individuals and communities live healthy, safe, and vibrant lives. That commitment starts in our home in my role as a husband and a father. We first moved to Los Angeles in 2013 when I was hired to build and lead the national training division for Team Rubicon, a disaster response nonprofit that repurposes the skills of military veterans to aid communities (domestically and internationally) affected by natural disasters.

I currently work as an emergency management consultant with Constant Associates where I assist public and private sector clients in the process of preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters of all types. Simultaneously, I am a music artist. I write, produce, sing, and eMCee. I create hip hop and soul music that promotes love and inspires greatness. My musical mission and style were birthed and shaped in my hometown, Chicago but are informed by my evolving spiritual journey, my travels, and my personal experiences in communion with people from across the globe.

I officially established Jason Ferg Music as a company in April of 2017 after taking inventory of the learning, growth, and impact I had amassed over a 10-year period as an independent music artist. I also began to take stock of the things I was most commonly being asked to assist others with based upon their recognition of my expertise. This enabled me to hone my core capabilities and establish more formalized business processes that would scale the reach of my service-offerings beyond my immediate network.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been all smooth, but it has been relatively pleasant. I have learned a great deal along the way, and I place a high value on each and every lesson I’ve earned. Very early on, I took time to lock-in on my purpose within the world of music.

I understood that many of the challenges faced in life and in this business are, in some form or fashion, connected to a lack of clarity around purpose and identity. One of the greatest struggles has been remaining faithful to my assignment and focused on my greater purpose, particularly when it seemed like progress toward certain goals was taking longer than I had originally imagined.

In those very times, God would send me the most simple reminders that I was on the right track and to not be discouraged because of my natural conception of progress. I firmly believe that my truest, most meaningful progress is taking place in the unseen realm which manifests in the hearts of those my music touches.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have learned so much from so many people, even those who didn’t know I was watching and taking notes. My entire village (family and friends) has been supportive of me along my journey.

I thank my parents for encouraging me to pursue greatness, inspiring me to live my life in purpose, and raising me to be proud of who God created me to be. In terms of establishing Jason Ferg Music as a brand and making forward strides on the business front, the biggest champion has been my wife and best friend, Eraina.

I will never forget the string of questions she fired-off during our very first phone conversation. She grilled me regarding my goals for my music, affirmed that I have a message and a sound worth sharing with the world, and then walked me through the process of launching my very first website.

That was nearly seven years ago. Since then, she has continued to support the growth of my music and the business. We periodically have strategic planning meetings around the dining room table fully equipped with colored markers, large chart paper, and painter’s tape.

My drive to continue to build what I am building is fueled mostly by my children. I realize that the best way to inspire my sons and daughters to pursue their dreams in life, even while maintaining other life-sustaining responsibilities, is to demonstrate what it looks like when I pursue mine.
