Meet Jasmine Magdaleno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Magdaleno.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m an OC resident and have been a licensed esthetician since 2012. I went into this field only nineteen years old, a year fresh out of high school then knowing that I wanted a career in this. Throughout my career as an esthetician, I worked for many different types of facilities. From acne clinics to day spas and the list goes on. I hit a rough patch in 2017/2019. I began feeling unsatisfied and confused on why I wasn’t feeling fulfilled with my life or my work at the time. You would think that in your mid-twenties, you’re supposed to have it all together and be content with life but I was beginning to question if I had made the right career decision choosing this path. Forward to 2020, I had started a new job as a lead esthetician and although I was excited to start something new, I still felt like the spark in me for esthetics had faded. That’s when Covid hit and I was left with no job for what seemed like eternity due to all of the restrictions. I was eventually let go and from there, I couldn’t find a place that felt like home to work for. I had taken a semi-permanent makeup course in September 2020 within that time frame that I wasn’t working in esthetics and that is where the fire ignited in me to finally begin my entrepreneurial journey. I began taking clientele doing PMU only at my then mentors studio but something told me to still offer skin care services. I racked up enough money and began searching for rooms to rent all over OC and I thankfully found one in HB (May 2021) with the help of a friend.

Mind you, I had ZERO clientele so that’s what I was most nervous about. I also didn’t have a back up plan in case it flopped but I canceled out the self doubts I had and went for it anyway. I decided not to give up completely on esthetics and I’m so happy I didn’t. That is when “Esthetics By Jasmine” came to fruition. This is truly what brought passion back into my life, becoming my own boss and finally having a place of my own where I could create my own menu, services and come in and leave when I wanted. It was having the freedom while doing what I loved that sold me. I’m very fortunate to have grown my business so quickly since opening last year in May. Through posting tons of content on social media, engaging with people and word of mouth, it has grown immensely. My main focus now is only skincare services. I absolutely have loved being a small business owner. I have met so many amazing supportive boss babes in this industry and have made great connections. The support I’ve had since starting this has been unreal. They say timing is everything and that is true. It took me 29 years to finally feel like this is really what I’m meant to do. Was the process easy? Absolutely not but you honestly learn along the way! There is no age limit or “right time” to do what you want in life. I’m a firm believer that everything falls into place when it should, you just have to sit back and embrace the journey there. No matter how long it takes. Your dreams won’t work unless you do!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not, when I began my journey becoming an entrepreneur, it was learning every aspect of owning a business that was so confusing and stressful to me. You really don’t stop learning. I still learn something new everyday. You have to not be afraid to ask questions when you’re lost or confused. No matter now many people you have to reach or how many calls you have to make. Another “struggle” I guess you can call this is comparing yourself to others and what you perceive success to be. There were times I felt a little discouraged due to the rate of success I had seen others reach in such a short amount of time or how fast they were booking clientele etc. but that’s when I snapped myself out of it and told myself that I just had different timing. Comparing and self-doubt wasn’t helping me move forward so I embraced my way there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to call myself “The facial glow Queen” on Instagram lol but I do because I take pride in my work after I give my clients their facial treatments. They leave glowing and happy! I offer a variety of services from Hydrofacials, microdermabrasion, LED therapy, high frequency and my favorite and most requested service, dermaplaning. I think what sets me apart from others is just the energy and vibe I put out whether it be on social media, with my clientele and my style and aesthetic I incorporate in my menu and me just being me… I know that sounds cliche but one thing that stuck with me when I say this is was when I had someone who was an esthetician finishing school send me a sweet message that said, “ So glad I found your Instagram! I really needed some insight on how to build a menu for myself. Loving the true reflection of you coming through your brand and your work. I hope to be in your position in the future!”. That right there supports when I say I believe me just being me reflects every aspect of my work and for others to point that out… amazing!

What are your plans for the future?
I would ideally like to offer skincare courses this year. I’ve had a handful of fresh out of school estheticians, seasoned estheticians and professionals who reached out wondering if I offer trainings. Having others wanting to learn from me was a heartwarming feeling so that is definitely something that will be happening. And for further down the line, I’d like to eventually have a bigger studio to myself and who knows maybe it’ll be an advanced esthetics training studio too!
