Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Ibarra.
Jasmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well for starters, I didn’t care for flowers at all. If I received flowers as a gift I’d most likely forget to put them into a vase with water. My passion for flowers started about a year ago after my daughter, Alexia passed away.
Flowers had become my therapy. I’d go to the flower district in Downtown L.A. and splurge on flowers to make bouquets for my baby’s resting space or as I call it “Alexia’s Garden”.
My family began to ask me if I could make arrangements for them like for birthdays or something they saw on Pinterest and I would. YouTube became well is my best friend. My family started to refer to friends and next thing I knew I started making all kinds of arrangements. I had fell in love with the flower world.
So then, I decided to start a floral design business and the perfect name for it, Alexia’s Garden. I didn’t do it just for myself but also as a legacy to Alexia. She was such a girly girl. She loved flowers, her favorite flowers were roses. I made an Instagram, Facebook and website with the help of my brother Jesse who is an amazing photographer along with other family and friends.
Now here we are, a flower business from home and when I say “we” I mean me and Alexia in spirit, working together. We make flower arrangements for all occasions with love.
Has it been a smooth road?
No. Definitely not. I am currently unemployed and looking for a job to help support the business because let’s face it, the business won’t survive only on love.
Also, it’s been hard to get more clientele even though we are on social media there’s a lot of competition. Plus, we haven’t had a big experience yet like a full-blown wedding. We want people to take a chance on us. Because even though we are small we work hard and try to go above and beyond.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Alexia’s Garden makes flower arrangements for any occasion. We don’t exactly have a category that we specialize in yet but our most popular arrangements are our flower boxes. Our customers love them! We try to be as creative as possible and give our customers what they need.
I am most proud of myself by starting this business. I wasn’t really the type to take risks but now I’ve learned that people need to take risks because if not one day we’d probably regret it and always wondering “what if?”.
What sets us apart from others is probably the fact that we will only have 1 year of experience being a part of the flower world. Unlike others who grew up in the business or have years of experience. We are rookies, still learning about this business.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely think so. Even though there’s a lot of competition there are still so many people and opportunities. As long as you give it your all anything is possible.
