Meet Jasmine Edwards of Socially Nailed in Mid-City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Edwards.

Jasmine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being an LA native, I loveeee my city! There are so many beauty and fashion trends that start here and there’s truly no place like LA! Growing up, I always had a knack for all things beauty. I remember around age 12, I saved my allowance to purchase my first acrylic nail drill lol I wanted to create and customize my own nails at a young age. As I grew older, I found myself collaborating with my local nail techs. Showing them patterns, art, anything that was a reflection of me.

As a woman of color, I noticed a huge lack of diversity in this industry and wanted to build a business to shatter that glass ceiling and have a seat at the table. That’s how socially nailed came about. I wanted to create a brand for women on the go who may not have time for the salon but want the salon-quality at their leisure. Our goal is to become the #1 at-home nail brand with products for the entire family. Being from LA, I have big plans to participate in local pop-ups once outside opens again. We recently participated in TedXCrenshaw and it was truly an honor to be a part of a local event that makes an impact in our community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth? Not so much 🙂 Any entrepreneur will tell you, starting a business is not for the faint at heart. You have to nurture and spend time in your business, treating it like a newborn baby daily! One of the biggest challenges to date was launching during the middle of a global pandemic! Lol whew! I was waiting for COVID to go away and waiting for the “right time” but as you can see, nine months in and COVID is still very much present. I had to change my mentality and realize that there will never be the right time, so just seize the now and give it all you got! Honestly, the best decision I made in 2020 was betting on myself and my business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Socially Nailed – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Socially Nailed is a Modern, luxe, at-home nail brand for women on the go who may not have time for the salon but want the salon-quality at their leisure. Our motto is: We let our fingers do the talking. Our bold yet quality products will have people asking “who did your nails?” To date, we have launched with our re-usable press-on kits and are releasing new product SKUs like our gel nail wraps, just in time for the holidays. I am most proud of our social justice collection. Where the team comes together and votes on a charity to donate the proceeds of a custom-designed nail set. This month our limited edition Breonna Taylor nail set is the spotlight collection. We have donated the proceeds to the #Sayhername campaign to help fight for justice! I’m most proud of this for several reasons, I get to give back through my business all while making a statement through my nails. What sets us apart is that we are curating and collaborating with other black nail creatives to showcase their talents/designs through our products. I believe that the black woman is the most undervalue person and it is my goal to showcase more of our talent in this industry.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future is full of endless possibilities. I’m excited about designing and curating more products for our customers and making an impact one mani at a time.
