Meet Jasmine Chiswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Chiswell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m originally from Scotland and moved to LA just over three years ago, which I can’t believe! Time Flies! I came to LA to do my Master in Film Production at The New York Film Academy in Burbank in 2017 and I had no idea that I would still be here but doing something slightly different.

After I graduated, I got to work on projects with the music producer, Mr. Skeleton and then I rediscovered my love for old Hollywood glamour.

I came across the makeup brand, Bésame Cosmetics, by fluke and I couldn’t not venture in with their absolutely beautiful aesthetic! I mean they had a Snow White collection! I had to look inside!

When I went in I remembered why I adored the 50s, their whole store is like you stepped back in time to the 50s! It’s amazing!

After buying a few pieces of makeup, I went home and started watching a lot of YouTube tutorials of 50s makeup styles and hairstyles. I must say, the first few times were awful! It did take me a few times to started to get it to work out ok! The hair was the hardest part, it wasn’t till I got a proper vintage haircut that I can now start to say I can do a few 50s hairstyle good haha!

Once I started to get the hang of it, I started to post a lot of my styles on Instagram and that’s where it all started really.

I have a lot of idols from the 50s such as Grace Kelly, Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe and that is where I get a lot of my style inspiration from.

Once I noticed my Instagram numbers were growing, I started a website and then all of a sudden I started to get posted by a lot of vintage companies, which was amazing to me and that is how I started to grow a lot more.

I only started dressing vintage April of 2018 and I honestly don’t look back! I can’t believe it hasn’t even been that long! I can’t see myself dressing any other way now.

I have now started a YouTube channel which is exciting for me because I can now get back to filming every day which I love and create content for my fans every week. I’m honestly so thankful for my fans, they are so supportive and encouraging!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there were obstacles! I feel that if you are passionate about anything, then there always will be obstacles and also nothing that’s worth it is ever that easy! That’s what I think anyway!

Working on any social media platform, I think it will always be hard and mentally exhausting but I have found that taking breaks and leaving my phone for a few hours and doing something completely different helps. I love to run, swim, read books and watch movies! Especially horror ones! I write a lot of horror film scripts so I always like to watch new horror films! Especially ghost ones because I like them the most!

I’ve had a few challenges with dealing with my account getting bigger as it does require a lot of my time now and I’ve had a few people that have let me down along the way which I’ve had to learn to deal with. I guess it’s like anything, you can never trust what anyone says until they follow through with it and prove it to you.

I would honestly say just keep pushing through any obstacle like the saying goes, It doesn’t rain forever! Tomorrow is a fresh start so keep pushing for your dreams and goals! You got this!

What should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a vintage beauty and fashion content creator based in Hollywood Los Angeles 🙂 !

I post lots of videos on YouTube about vintage fashion, beauty tutorials, vlogs, podcasts etc! I also post on Instagram daily in a 1950s, old Hollywood aesthetic which I wear everyday!

I love that I can help others dress the way that they want to and to inspire people everyday. It truly means the world to me when people write me to thank me for helping them through something and to inspire them. All of my fans support means the world to me!

I would say that my style is very different to what people wear today and that is what makes me stand out. I love the style from the 50s and the old Hollywood glamour so to some people on the streets they just stare but I feel much more confident now and beautiful in that style so that’s how I know that this is who I am.

Some people also think that I resemble Marilyn Monroe which I still think is so amazing as she was such a beautiful and inspiring woman and that is such a huge compliment. I love to mix and match eras and clothing from now and make it look vintage as if it was from the 50s!

I love to have fun on my social media accounts and to share my everyday life on there.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Oh, that’s a hard one because I feel proud every day! I’m proud that even through the toughest times, I’m still pushing for my bigger goal which is to have my own company and to make movies!

Inspiring others is also one of my proudest moments because it feels amazing to be able to help someone and to help guide them to who they want to be. I always want to encourage everyone to be who they are and to love themselves.
