Meet Janice Hou of Homes by Price + Hou in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Hou.

Janice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Scott and I got into real estate sales independently in 2004 and partnered up a year later when we realized we made a great business duo. Since then, we’ve experienced the high, low and then high again of the market cycle.

I was born and raised on the Westside of LA, while Scott moved here with his band from a small Norcal town called Woodland. With the same drive and work ethic, we built up our own real estate business and three years ago, expanded into a team. Now we have 2 amazing buyer’s agents who are not only our colleagues but like family as well.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every path has bumps and we experienced a huge one during the great recession when the real estate market slowed. I was 2 months away from moving into my mom’s home, and we just started hustling big time. We worked non-stop at marketing and deepening relationships with our clients.

As we’re building a team, we’re learning how to manage different personalities and making sure to create an uplifting and constructive work environment.

Ultimately, the struggle is to become a better human being every day.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moments are twofold. Being able to train, inspire and mentor a team so that they can achieve great success is such a fulfilling part of our business. And of course being in real estate sales, helping our clients also accomplish their real estate goals, whether through buying their own home or investment property, is also gratifying.
