Meet Janelle and Josh Caballero of 805 Camera Bus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle and Josh Caballero.

Janelle and Josh, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Josh and I were looking for a fun, creative business that we could start together and build from the ground up. One day Josh stumbled upon a unique business in San Diego – a Volkswagen Bus that had been converted into a photo booth. We immediately knew we wanted to test this venture – so after two months of searching, we found “Lola,” a 1971 VW Bus residing in Orange County.

As soon as we test drove her, we knew she was perfect for what we wanted to do. The family that owned her had lovingly named her “Lola,” and we thought it was the perfect name for her. As beautiful as Lola was on the outside, she needed some TLC on the inside. The restoration began in June 2015 and took approximately eight months to get her all dolled up and ready for weddings & events.

We both had full-time jobs at the time and were working nights and weekends to get all the finishing touches done – just in time for a friend’s wedding in March 2016. We tested it out on family and friends, and everyone loved it! About a month later, we opened for business. Since then we’ve attended dozens of weddings and events all over Southern California! Our dream of owning a fun, creative business has come true!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with any small business, there are ups and downs, and a lot of hard work that goes into it. Lola is over 40 years old, so there are maintenance and mechanical issues that can arise, but so far they’ve been relatively minor. Overall, we’ve been able to overcome any obstacles that have come our way.

805 Camera Bus – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Camera Bus is a photo booth nestled neatly inside a restored 1971 Volkswagen Bus named “Lola.” We wanted to create a vintage booth while incorporating modern photo booth capabilities. Our main focus is to provide the best customer service to our clients and their guests! During the event, we offer assistance to the guests and ensure everything runs smoothly.

The best part about our job is seeing the joy that everyone gets from taking photos inside the booth. Our clients are happy because their guests are happy! When designing the booth, we wanted it to be made of high-quality materials with high attention to detail.

Our overall design is unique to us – as is our “Photo Booth” marquee sign that we designed ourselves. Not only are you getting a high-quality booth at your wedding or event, but Lola is eye-catching and provides a wonderful backdrop too.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our success is dependent on our client’s satisfaction. We love hearing “this is the best booth ever!” at events. We’ve been able to continually grow our company and are looking forward to more growth in the coming years. As long as our clients are happy – we’re happy!
