Meet Janel Prator of The Puddery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janel Prator.

Janel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my business by accident actually. While working at the phone company, I made pudding to compete in a cook-off at work to prove I could cook. My coworkers loved my pudding so much that they suggested that I should sell it. That’s when the lightbulb came on. Soon after, I started having bake sales at work and eventually started participating in community events and festivals and catering.

Has it been a smooth road?
No! The road has definitely not been easy. It’s been a lot of highs and lows. At one point, I closed my business for years and found the courage to start again. It’s never easy being a single mom, working a full-time job and trying to grow a business. It’s definitely tough. But the dream is so much bigger. Its stronger then any hurtle you WILL face in business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Puddery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m most proud of seeing my customers responses when they taste the pudding. They simply love it. It makes me proud to see smiles on faces and to know that I made my dream a reality. From printing business cards to delivering my pudding for a family dinner, it makes me proud that people choose to invest their hard-earned money in my business.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like about LA is the weather of course, all the opportunities that are available in our community and the diversity. What I dislike the most about LA is our growing homeless population. It’s pretty bad and getting worse. Its truly sad. But LA is a great city and there’s always room for improvement.
