Today we’d like to introduce you to Janay Frazier.
Janay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It was 2015, I was a full-time interior design student and a full-time bartender. I had a project where I had to create and design a unique restaurant experience. At that time, I was thinking a lot about my end goals. I had been bartending for four years and knew I didn’t want to be in my 40s behind the bar, but I loved the creative freedom I had by creating drinks. While I was brainstorming ideas for my project, I thought of an alcohol-infused ice cream shop.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was definitely not smooth! I had an idea with absolutely no idea on how to execute it. Then dealing with life situations deterring me from giving all my focus to this idea. It took a solid year for me to figure out the right measurements of alcohol to get the ice cream freeze but give you a buzz.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Nay’s Adult Delicacies – what should we know?
I make alcohol infused candy and frozen treats. What I’m specifically known for is my ice cream pints and my popsicles. What sets me apart from my competitors are my prices and that everything is homemade and I use fresh fruits besides processed fruit juices.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I genuinely love what I do. Obviously, you go into business you want to make money but for the first four years, I wasn’t making a profit. I would make ice cream go all around Los Angeles to comedy shows, music venues, sporting events passing out samples outside to patrons in line.
