Today we’d like to introduce you to James Milan.
James, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From saving the lives of animals to saving the lives of humans. In either case, I knew my passion was always to improve the well-being of others before myself. “But what about the money?” asked everyone in existence. I thought about it for a second and realized of all those I’ve helped up to that point, the feeling that I played a part in improving their well-being was more gratifying than any amount of compensation. My career as a social worker was one of the most fulfilling and it was during this time I mastered the most important life skill anyone could have empathy. When you can better understand the goals of others and the obstacles they face, you can help pave the path to their success. Another key to personal success is to never stop learning. The moment you think you know it all, you’ve failed. Whether it was obtaining my MBA to learning from other entrepreneurs or even those, what we thought was boring, life lessons from your parents, all those little bits of knowledge eventually come together to take you to the next level.
Has it been a smooth road?
Started from the bottom and we’re still looking up. The obstacles are infinite, but as an entrepreneur, you know this comes with the territory. Besides all the basics of staying organized, educated and sharp with all things related to the fitness industry, maintaining that same drive and motivation you had when you first started can be the most challenging when faced with adversity. If there was a perfect single way of running a business, then anyone with a business would be successful. We know that’s not the case, so you always have to keep your mind right and continue to find ways to keep your creative juices flowing. My advice: Remember that spark you had when you first started and keep it burning.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Apollo Boot Camp story. Tell us more about the business.
Back to the future of 2013 and the birth of Apollo Boot Camp. A fitness family like no other. A community of members lacking egos, just a passion to better themselves and everyone around them. A culture that was already in the making long before we opened our doors. Not only do we empower everyone at ABC to find their passion for success, but to share that same drive with everyone on that same fitness journey.
What sets Apollo Boot Camp apart is our eclectic style of classes. You can attend other boutiques with one style of workouts or you can go to ABC, which fuses all genres into our amazing workouts. Each day is a new day for a new workout, keeping your muscles confused and growing. Every exercise is personalized for your specific goals whether you’re a beginner or advanced. So, if your goal is fat burning, weight loss, toning, muscle strength/endurance or conquering obstacles in your next Spartan Race or Tough Mudder, our specialized routines will help you achieve those results.
Our hybrid of workouts is designed like no other group training class you’ve ever experienced. So, if you love circuit training, cardio Muay Thai/Kickboxing, Olympic Weightlifting and NINJAS, you will love ABC.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The fitness industry is always evolving, so if you don’t want to be ancient history, you must evolve too. This goes back to what I mentioned earlier about always keeping your mind right and your spark burning. Additionally, you always have to have a great team that has the same passion. I’ve been very fortunate and couldn’t have come as far as we have without our lead trainer, Joe. You know what they say, “Teamwork makes the Dream work.” What we also love about fitness is how creative you can get with programming workouts. It’s not always about sit-ups and pushups. As a trainer, you have to sit at the drawing table every single day to come up with a workout that is fun, exciting and will always keep your members motivated and engaged. What we love even more is that there’s no hassle with the task of creating workouts. We’re as excited to do them as we are to see our members do them.
Our main goal is to see everyone happy as they embark on their fitness journeys, so our passion will always remain. Our creative juices will always flow and we will always focus on staying ahead of the game to give our fit family the best the industry has to offer. Results and community.
