Meet James Anderton of West in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Anderton.

James, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The vision for WEST is to purvey exquisitely hand-crafted boots, shoes, leather goods, silver accessories and jewelry in an urban setting – and show that these often Western inspired goods can hold their own in the presence of the high end international fashion houses that dominate the world of fashion today. With every good we offer comes the story of its creation, and the artisans and craftsman behind it.

Virtually, every item in our store is produced in small production, and each maker has a story that imbues the item with meaning beyond its mere form and function. A visit to WEST is a venture of discovery and a shopping experience that refuses to be duplicated online, or in larger stores. We are honored to be rewarded on both sides of our business – in working with the makers of our products, coming to appreciate their passion and vision – and with forging relationships and friendships with our clients and seeing them return to our store each time they visit Los Angeles. For the confident and discerning individualist, we offer exquisitely handcrafted goods whose quality is self-evident without reliance on a logo to reveal its value.

Has it been a smooth road?
Opening a startup retail operation in the center of iconic Beverly Hill’s golden triangle can most certainly be daunting. Add the element that we may by some be called a “Cowboy Store” – and it doubles the challenge. Through steadfast effort and just doing what we know to do best – delivering great retail experience and exquisite products that our clients most likely would not encounter anywhere else – proves to work in the in the long run.

Introducing clients to how a quality boot or shoe should truly fit, and form the foot to break into to what becomes a most comfortable piece of footwear often takes our clients by surprise. Our service is more than to offer a style in “brown or black,” but to educate and help the client appreciate what they are purchasing.

The same can be said for our belts and buckles – most clients are not familiar with the notion of choosing a buckle and belt separately, then assembling the two so it becomes the client’s own personalized piece. Our buckles are mostly hand crafted in sterling silver and gold with various amounts of adornment – engraving, overlay, filigree and may be set with gemstones. Clients can of course take it one step further and have their own ideas made into custom a buckle, as well as boots, or in our jewelry as well.

Perhaps our biggest challenge has been – being a block off Rodeo, is well, just that a block of Rodeo, so it never feels like we get to introduce our goods to as many users as we think would truly appreciate our goods. Luckily though organically the word spreads and clients seek us out.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
